john_mchutchison
Hi all, got my new 3" stainless steel exhaust fitted today from the turbo to and including back box but mechanic had to break a bolt on the turbo heat shield. So at the moment it has no heat shield. Now iv been scouring forums all over the internet regarding opinions on this but i want to know what you guys think. i know the intercoler is gonna run hotter and other things i dont quite understand but i noticed some wires behind the intercooler pretty close to the turbo, will they melt? I also wrapped the DP in heat wrap, is it normal for it to smoke when new? will it stop when it gets run in? Has anyone used a turbo blanket? I read they overheat the turbo, anyone with experience of these? Ok enough questions about turbos, on to Tein coilover kits. Im getting this fitted tomorrow and as iv never had coilovers before whats your opinion on ride height stiffness etc? They are fully adjustable. 6 more sleeps to andy forrest remap Link to comment
davey l wrx
Heat wrap will smoke when it's new but it should stop once it's bedded in... unless it's the cheap crap that catches fire! Tein gear is notoriously stiff.... even their spring kits are like fitting granite to your dampers. It'll be dowen to trial and werror to get it set up how you and the car like it. Unfortunately our roads are shite and nothing like the billiard tables coilovers work best on! No idea about the rest! Link to comment
john_mchutchison
unless it's the cheap crap that catches fire! Holy shoit, it better no. i bought it from scoobyworld http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24_53&products_id=1641 Link to comment
davey l wrx
Should be ok then. There's been some decidedly dodgy stuff on ebay and i heard of some motor's going up in flames from having it fitted Link to comment
fai17
I wasn't overly keen on the tein super street that I had. Far too stiff and bouncy. Wrap does smoke until ran in. Turbo jackets are better than the original heat Sheild. Good luck on the remap and usual run of the mill for Andy. Link to comment
scooby222
yea youl be fine with the wrap, give it a couple of decent runs and itl stop smoking - crapped myself when mine was first done lol turbo blankets apparently work quite well, but get a decent one Teins are very good kit but just too stiff for me enjoy all the changes, glad you kept the beastie Link to comment
john_mchutchison
Thanks for the advice/comments guys, just about to go get it back from garage just now so ill take a wee spin and see what they teins are like, should make a big difference cause i think the back struts have been a wee bit fooked since i got the car over 3 years ago despite what Grieves told me. And that includes 13.5 laps of the "Ring. john 1 Link to comment
