Do The South West Need A Summer Bbq?

South West BBQ and social

  1. 1. Do owners in the South West (Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire) feel that they would like to have a BBQ and a social gathering later this summer?

If it is at Jerry's just for the day then no portaloos, if it is overnight and we have families attending then we may need portaloos. But do not forget that I have not actually talked to Jerry yet, nor have we put up a date!! I would like this to be a family do as I would like us to do inclusive events as far as possible. My initial idea was for a bring your own type of thing to keep the costs down but I opened it up to suggestions as we need to keep the whole area democratic as far as possible. At the end of the day we must try to be central for the majority, no good saving £3 per person on a field if we then have to pay an extra £20-30 to get there. Due to health issues, camping in a field with no facilities is not on for me, and I cannot eat most b-b-q things anyway, but I am sure we will get this organised. I was hoping for a bigger response from members all round the area - whether SIDC or not - as we can then encourage more to join us and make it all better when we do other things :) Dunno if der management are reading this, but maybe they would like to make an input (Hi Kim!!) Still gauging interest at the moment lol.

I reckon a night with beer and BBQ is an option I'd prefer or else it's just another drive out. I believe that a BBQ should be the thing us SW lot push as our main event of the year. Family atmosphere etc.

But as always happy to go with the flow.

I agree with you hence picked a place as an option with facilities and family friendly. I appreciate, deepest Devon it's a bit further for. But I think is ok for most as just outside Porlock. Where is Jerry's?

Jerry lives just outside exeter nr the m5 I think, its on the main artery to the south west for nearly all of us! It's about 40 miles away from you up in bridgy!

I personally think a big get together needs a lot of planning!

But as Keith says I'm happy to go with the flow as long as I'm not down hill of it!

I don't believe it needs that much planning. If its only a get-together for a BBQ and beer then all we need is location then the rest is up to the individual. If it works well then we can always do it as an end of season blow out before the rubbish weather kicks in.

Porlock seems a good Idea as for only £7 a night and all the amenities near by. Just bring your own bog roll.

Right guys! Great idea! Please tell me if it's not. We put a fab show of numbers up at Combe for all events and I don't see why we can't do this for others....

So I put it to you that we make our BBQ an end of season BBQ with camping and a few drinks too. I've a contact who has some land and facilities that we can possibly use if the right level of interest is shown. It's right next to the track at Silverstone.

So I propose that we have a drive out, and day out at Trax at Silverstone with camping and drinks after. Can probably camp the night before too if wanted to save silly o'clock drive up. Please show genuine interest and will start talks.

This could appeal as more of a club thing too rather then just SW which would be amazing!
