highlandflyer Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Sorry guys I'm picking your brains again. Taking stock of this years excellent fling I'm looking at improving handling again. The blob was better this year with 22mm rear arb and droplinks (all whiteline), a set of F1's was also a major factor and we never really came unstuck but car feels "floaty" and not planted enough on any bend that is less than smooth. There's obviously a fair bit of roll on standard 34000 mile suspension as well. Looking to fix this with lower springs and new shocks but not sure about coilovers. Don't want to ruin already so so ride quality, so any suggestions? Was offered prodrive springs on the Fing but struggling to remember by who!!! Car is WRX '05 with inverted struts so is a swap to sti suspension or Hawkeye gear an option that would meet my needs? Cheers

Sounds like you need a bit more caster. Google "Free caster mods" - lots of good reading and potentially not too expensive. Caster will improve steering weight/ feel, reduce understeer and also give sharper turn-in. Good place to start... prodrive springs worth a look too. And I know "Dixie Fanfare" Phil is rather fond of his new BC coilovers and said ride was fine.
scouk Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I'd have to say a +1 for the BC's.. They don't necessarily need to be bone shakingly hard. You can get different spring rates with them so you can have the comfort of standard springs. withotu looking the firmness from teh dampers. I wen't for the ones a step up from soft. And will admit it's noticably firmer than the PRodrive springs I ran before, even with the dampers set pretty soft. Other thing to note is that with uprated spring on standard dampers. The dampers wear out quite a bit quicker and there more rapid movement from the stiffer spring. But does improove the handling!
wrx kenny Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Hate to put a dampner on the bc,s , mine have only done about 12000 miles had to replace the rear n/s and the front same is leaking as well . Appauling for coilovers with such little mileage but when there working they are superb. kenny

I assume a small drop in height with better shox is sensible. are prodrive spring almost the same rates as eibach and assume both are progressive ?
davey l wrx Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I got the Whiteline adjustable top mounts fitted to mine - won't work with coilovers though, std kit only. They just give more scope fro setting everything up for better handling. I'm in 2 minds about dropping mine a bit as well i picked up a full set of STI suspension with Tein springs to keep as spares for when the dreaded knock begins but the springs might go on. I have heard good things about the BC's though, having said that i was thinking about an AST set up. But i think that can wait for a while..... Maybe
