dougieboy Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I have put a full de-cat system on my car but does anyone know if u have to change just the down pipe and the cat pipe or just one or the other for the mot.
scouk Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Putting a cat into the downpipe will in 99% of cases let you pass mot.. Some have gotten away with putting one in the center/cat pipe (which is easier to swap out come MOT time) but not all cars get away with just this one..
scoobyt13for Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Think it depends on the garage doing mot , bribery is an option
dougieboy Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Think it depends on the garage doing mot , bribery is an option Tried that mate, the guy said there was a new thing came out at the start of january so there was no chance on getting me passed.
thewifescar Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 the new test means they should check the same number of cats as originally fitted to the car are present. not good news for many. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-servicing-repair/mot-changes-2012.html
badbaz Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 This is gonna be a mega grey area - what if a cat has the center knocked out it - what if an owner claims the pipe has a cat in it? What if you've never seen that model of car before - how would you know where a cat should be? If it passes the emissions test (which it wouldn't without one) what do you do - we were trained to give the presenter the benefit of the doubt in difficult situations and 'pass and advise' I'm on a refresher next week so it's gonna be interesting to see what they say about this and other questionable items!
