tony2154 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Afternoon people, just to make you all aware, I was stopped by a policeman in Plymouth this morning, for having a noisy exhaust. I was on my way back from the school run! It’s a brand new Cobra Cat-Back resonated exhaust that was fitted a few weeks ago. Cheeky sod pulled onto my drive and proceeded to get his Db reader out and asked me to rev to 4000rpm and took a reading, and then showed me, it read 120Db, I’ve now discovered the limit set by the constabulary is 90 Db. I was a bit shocked really, my old TVR used to be louder!! Anyway spoke to Alan Jeffery's who promptly spoke to Cobra. Hopefully all will be sorted soon.
scouk Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 120dB that's rediculously loud for an exhaust!
rig-pig Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 wow thats nice and loud but in sure it's only 3000rpm they are meant to test it at ?? could be wrong tho
Ric Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 pretty sure there is no dB limit set by law ? plus how was it tested ? if it was in a built up area the sound will be amplified and thus the test unsound. As above 120dB is crazy loud. Would love to know the outcome on this

tony2154 Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 The exhaust was sent back to Cobra, via Alan Jeffrey. I’ve since got it back and fitted. It is noticeably quieter. Thanks to Alan for all your assistance. Apparently its one cop who seems to be on a major mission!!

lewisscoob Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 120dB is pretty loud. I'm with Craig, I though that the test was to be at 3000rpm and I actually thought that the limit was 85dB. Glad i've ditched my nur spec now...
