Wee Jock Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 Were they powder coated? Yeah, Perth Powder Coatings!
ciaranrb5 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Third time I have seen that now on a set of powder coated wheels the extreme temperatures used in the powder coating process can cause this.
WRXStevie Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I was told that it was only certain types of Wheels that were affected, but a warning to everyone to check Wheels'n'Tyres B4 driving... What's other peoples views???

What's other peoples views??? Guess you can add them to the list! Paint or powder coating............answer has to be paint! At least with paint your life is not put in danger! If this is a common problem with alloy wheels surely this practice should be banned or is it bad workmanship?

One of the other sets I saw were actually standard STI wheels from a V7. The other set were Duncan Grahams. I don't know if it is bad workmanship as different materials are going to react differently to different tempeartures amongst other things to blame the powder coater would be a bit harsh
scooby222 Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 ouch!!! thats not good at all - looks like paints the way forward then! definitely a lucky escape Paul

subarucraig Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 thats even scarier i assumed there would be a rumble or vibration feeling if spokes broke just shows how lucky you are
scoobywho Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 I have seen this many times. its due to the length of time in the oven according to the coater i use for work. he said many sameday turnaround jobs turn out like this
thebigfelly Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 deasers keen eye on paint work or powder coat in your case, but lucky escape indeed !!
Wee Jock Posted September 14, 2011 Author Posted September 14, 2011 thats even scarier i assumed there would be a rumble or vibration feeling if spokes broke just shows how lucky you are TBH I heard a squealing sort of noise when going round roundabouts, thought it was the front driveshaft, didnt look at the wheel!

subarucraig Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 know what you mean if i heard a noise from wheel area i'd check suspension components brakes bearings not even considering wheels themselves
scoobywho Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Alot of people do that after a trip to their local kwik fit when they loose a spiggot ring or.3
