jj1966 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Picked up my 55 plate wrx yesterday, done 46,000 came with lot's of paperwork regarding previous servicing, however timing belt hasn't been changed yet, from what I have read I think I should have this carried out soon. I gather this can be a pricey job,any advice / recomendations on where to go for this to be carried out ? Cheers John

terzo neil Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 another vote for craid mcd as he has done the timing belts on both my subaru's
sti pretender Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Craig McD just did mine on the newage and Duncan at Hypertech did the one on the classic so both good. Belt and tensioners I got on ebay for the newage was advised by Craig to get a Gates belt.
Wee Jock Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 You can always take it to Halleys Subaru in Milingavie, personally I would take it to RA Motorsport in Perth its a nice drive out that way. Get a Cosworth timimg belt! Cheers Paul

arch Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 A cosworth belt on a road car running almost normal power is not worth it, a gates belt is more than adequate.
jj1966 Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Again, thanks for the info boy's Cheers John
kewe Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I'll be coming up for one too but at 90K 2003 WRX Last one was done at 45K by Halleys but looking for somewhere in the Edinburgh area anyone can recommend? I was quoted £385 for a Cambelt Service including vat, parts and labour from Ian Grieve, don't know if this is a good price or not?
johnnyr6 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Steve whitson (SW MOTORSPORT) 07956119962. He's in penicuik. Top bloke. Johnny

SW Motors sounds like a good recommendation guys thanks, I'll give Steve a phone.

I had my cambelt changed at Greives with the 50,000 service and MOT. Paid £485 for everything including service, mot, labour, new wiper blades so £385 sounds about right. Weather that is good or not I don't know but it's peace of mind that it's done correctly at a subaru dealer with the subaru stamp in the service book.
scooby222 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 check that that includes the belt tensioner as well as thats the expensive part and also apparently what usually goes rather than the belt (£110 for the tensioner :S)

I believe they can check the tensioner to see if it's needing replaced or not but wouldn't imagine that's included as standard in the price. For piece of mind I would probably favour buying the belt, pulleys and tensioner from somewhere like Scoobyclinic for about £270 and then get somebody like SW Motors to fit. Cambelt Service
