mystery machine Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Actually, having looked at the grey effort on an LCD monitor, it was probably a bit on the light side... Somewhere between the black and grey above would be nice. But hey - it's your motor

Get the gold wheels powder coated at the ned of the month, have a wee while to decide!

mystery machine Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 What's the story with your silver alloys, Jock - do you have a set of gold STI wheels and a set of silver Spec D wheels? Must admit I never used to think I was a "gold alloys" sort of person, but I do think they go very well with a met grey newage... I think it's because the grey and the gold are both 'metal' colours.

The car came with the gold as standard, (if you have a wife) having the wheels kerbed onec or twice and needing new tyres I started to look for a set of winter wheels and found these: 4th down http://www.subaruwrcspares.com/19.html I now have a set of kerbed gold wheels, either have them re done gold or black.........black is looking good!
Wee Jock Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Wheels in to be powder coated today gloss black! Pictures to follow!
thebigfelly Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Wheels in to be powder coated today gloss black! Pictures to follow! doesnt powder coating the alloys weaken the alloys themselves because you have to heat them up so high for the powder to stick ....
Wee Jock Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Not a 100% sure! Will let you know if they break!
supremeweb Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 doesnt powder coating the alloys weaken the alloys themselves because you have to heat them up so high for the powder to stick .... The powder is "stuck" on electrostaticly(not a word I know) and is then "baked" to cure the paint at about 200oC for usually 8 minutes (like a chicago town pizza). Sometimes they will pre heat the wheel to get a more uniform finish, that said this can lead to major runs in the paint due to excessive powder.
Wee Jock Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 Finally got my black powder coated wheels on! Big thanks to Perth Powder Coatings at only £40 per wheel! Also big thanks go to Andy at RA Motorsport for painting my centre caps. Free KFC coming your way......when I get a miunte to get up! Thanks to all!
mystery machine Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 They look good in the first pic Paul when the light's catching them

davey l wrx Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) Feck..... Log that one in the memory banks then! When did you spot the damage, that could have been decidedly risky if the wheel let go! Edited September 13, 2011 by davey l wrx
