patsy Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 (edited) Am I right in thinking that the WR1 only came as a newage limited edition? I bought a decat downpipe from a wr1 owner that was breaking his motor. But, after much sweat and toil in the drive to remove my 2002 wrx's downpipe and then find out that on slipping the decat dp on the turbo studs, the bloody thing is like 3 inches or so short of the mid section! Can someone set me straight on my problem? Cheers Ryan Edited July 9, 2010 by Patsy
Spaceman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 3 inch short doen`t sound right. on the bugeye is yours set up stamdard as down (with cat in it) pipe, then a second cat pipe(only bout 2 foot long) followed by a center section then rear box? i know classic had a diff setup and the hawkeye had a funny length but i thought bugs and blobs were all the same. got a picture of the downpipe is it deff a hi flow prodrive sportscat?
thefastone Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 I thought that bugs and Blobs were the same, Hawkeyes were different (But Don't know how), and Classics were shorter systems... I have a Newage BackBox on My Classic, but I couldn't fit the whole system, as it would be too long... Did he definitely give you the right parts? and were they actually fitted to the WR1?
patsy Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 My existing exhaust setup went from turbo--- 02 sti prodrive dp---then 3rd cat delete pipe---to un-resonated mid section---back box. When I line my prodrive dp and 3rd cat delete pipe next to the one piece dp I'm trying to fit, the bends, bracket and rear sensor hole on them match and are identically shaped. But the the final length of the decat stops a few inches before the prodive setup. Could it be that I've been sold a classic downpipe? Ta
Spaceman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 i remember people ending up with classic centre sections on newage cars that were bout 3 inch or so too short and the odd aftermarket Dp inc the 2nd decat all in one jobs being too short by an inch or so. the big thing that sticks with me here is if its a wr1 sport cat dp i would have thought you waould have mentioned having to grid the divider off at the bell mouth onto the turbo flange ?
Spaceman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 so this is an aftermarket job? who makes it? i rember someone on here ended up using a newage centre on a classic downpipe as it was shorter. i think you must have a classic did the guy actually have this fitted and if so what make centre and rearbox did he have?

The decat dp I'm trying to replace my prodrive dp with is a 3" bellmouth wolfrace one. I'm going to try popping out and taking a couple pics. Then come back in and try learning how to get them on to here for all to see?!!

Spaceman Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 who knows measure your centre section and post on scoobynet see the length of a standard one
patsy Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 Spaceman said: who knows measure your centre section and post on scoobynet see the length of a standard one I actually dug out my old original dp, cat pipe and centre section. They matched up with my existing setup and just through up the same length problem as this decat I'm trying to fit! I've pm'd the guy I bought it from and asked what exhaust parts he had bolted together to make up the system on his WR1. Same old saying comes to mind- s**t happens. Spent a rare day off work stripping an exhaust, fitting the new parts half up, stripping off and fitting the original back on anyways! Good practice if anything. Plenty copper grease on all bolts, so next time should be easier. Time will tell, might see if I can get the decat dp cut and welded to proper length? Cheers man Ryan
gus the bus Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Ryan, The bellmouth DP in the pic looks like a classic one so, If thats been on a WR1 it must have had the classic centre section fitted (classic centre is about 3" longer than the newage) so would make up the difference required. Personally I'd be trying to get the £'s back rather than bu$$ering about with different exhaust parts and buying a newage downpipe. S304 stainless ones can be had for £150 or so. Gus

Gus Yeah, not made my mind up on what to do. I see your point, might well be intouch to order one from your friend. Still waiting on a reply from the seller first. Thanks Gus
gus the bus Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 (edited) Shame it wasnt still fitted as you could probably have borrowed a classic centre from someone to see how it all sits and fits together and made your mind up from there. Hope you get sorted out whatever you decide to do Might be worth checking out the Hayward and Scott website as I'm almost certain they do the classic centre for the newage with their Downpipe IIR Edited July 5, 2010 by Gus the Bus

Anyone got a length of one? Ryan

patsy Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 Thanks again Gus. I'll get the tape on my centre section tomorrow to see whats what. It'll all be done one day..... Ryan
Gee Wr1 Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 The Wr1 exhaust system is the same as the ppp system fitted to newage sti's. Sounds like you've been sold something else probably of a classic. There are so many things on the likes of ebay that say wr1 & then have pics of something of a classic.

I thought the exhaust wered the same, thats whay I bought it obviously. It wasn't frfom eBay or the likes. It was from a member on here advetising in the for sale section! That makes it a little bit more annoying, as they would have known what they were selling! Ryan
irish al Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 A classic downpipe is approx 3" shorter than a new age. A classic centre section is approx 3" longer than a new age. I have been caught out before. Al

Pm'd you Bob. Deffo looks to be a classic down pipe. It has been compared against newage and classic setups and matches classics perfectly. Measures 90mm shorter than newage downpipe. Seems you must have had a classic system on your wr1? Got it sorted now anyways. Welded on the extra length needed to make it fit! All good.... Ryan
