G.Mac Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Alright folks, as you know the car has been off the road for a wee while now after my spark plug incident. Anyways my sump has now been ordered so my ingine is going into the final construction phase anyways a few pics block sourced for $600 UDS gone from this To this Crank with improved oil ways and converted to ctr thrust setup couple of pics of the dual AVCS heads and a random Cosworth bit will throw up more pics as I get them Graeme
Big Gordon Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Looking great Graeme, you'll be itching to get it all nailed together and back on the road.
arch Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Graeme will be interested to see how you get on with the cosworth belt guide, I had one and could not get it to fit it rubbed on the belt no matter how much i tried to adjust it i used feeler blades for hours trying to get it to fit. In the end i sent it back so would suggest you check the clearance carefully when you fit it
lewisscoob Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Pardon my ignorance but is that a chunk/chip off the left side of the crank?

terzo neil Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) defo looks like the crankhas a broken section it not worth using as could destroy itself under load Edited June 8, 2010 by Terzo Neil
RA Dunk Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I'm sticking with my masking tape theory, only one person can actually tell us what it is, Gmac where art thou?
ciaranrb5 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Looking good mate. When you expecting to get the engine back built? I recon it's a bit of tape from where it has been wrapped up
tomwrx08 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 looking gd mate, and i think its a bit of tape as well,
braveheart Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Glad things are coming along for you more light at the end of the tunnell for you keep the updates coming
rig-pig Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 looking good chap, if it is a chip off the crank it will need to be checked for small cracks and will need a rebalance m8 or it could go bang
thefastone Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Actually that looks machined... rather than just a bit of tape, or it being broken... What's with that Graeme?
G.Mac Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 (edited) Alright, Sorry not been able to post for a bit due to the internet being slower than an old granny in the 100M hurdles at work here. The crank is a 2.5 STI crank that has been modified from being a rear thrust bearing type to a center thrust bearing type, the crank was welded up and then ground down so it would suit the center thrust setup of the block. The crank has also been ballanced to 10,000 rpm so I suppose that this is the reason for that edge being ground down. Thats the Cosworth dry sump ordered and should be delivered to Ron soon, Ron also had a 12mm modified oil pump lying around as a spare, so at least that saves me a bit of cash not having to order the Cosworth pump. The only thing left to pay for now over in the States is the turbo, I still havent decided what to go for, I'm toying with either the normal Garrett GT 35/42 or the Tial turbo with the V band housing or this I feel a trans atlantic phone call coming on soon Graeme Edited June 14, 2010 by G.Mac
fai17 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 If i was ever going to get a single scroll turbo then it would be a Tial GT35R Turbo for good reasons.
