paul555sti Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I'm looking at what I should buy next what would the masses recommend?Neil What other mods do you have at the moment? Has the car been mapped or is it still standard? The 16g is a good quick spooling turbo, if you upgrade to a bigger one you are then looking at spending alot of cash on supporting mods as well.

Echoing what Paul just said, and with it being a wrx I'd have to recommend sticking with the 16g TD05. Fit the correct supporting mods and get it mapped by Andy Forrest . The following has been taken from Andy's website for reference: http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/58637.html Level 2 310-330bhp Full Decat or Sportscat exhaust from turbo back 2.5 or 3” bore Walbro 255 l/hr uprated fuel pump Apexi Induction system with resonator delete ESL custom live mapping of original ECU NGK PFR 7B uprated spark plugs High Flow multi spray fuel injectors 550cc (380cc std) Front mount intercooler MY 97 –00 map sensor (higher pressure rating) Edited May 31, 2010 by Phil MC
neill54 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 Still standard apart from the fuel pump fully decatted high flow panel filter plugs going in this week then looking for a new intercooler and bigger injectors plan to push the car as far as it will go then change internals turbo etc when and if i can afford the type i want really need to sort out brakes and chassis first though Neil
neill54 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) I like the sound of the AFP td05-20g!! Neil Edited May 31, 2010 by neill54
craigdmcd Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 What do you have planned for your gearbox as it won't take all the power the 16g can supply never mind a 20g
paul555sti Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 I like the sound of the AFP td05-20g!!Neil Your engine, clutch and gearbox might not though.
terzo neil Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 your gearbox will defo spit the dummy out under the afp td05-20g you'll be picking the bits up from the road
RA Dunk Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 your gearbox will defo spit the dummy out under the afp td05-20gyou'll be picking the bits up from the road My gearbox has never given me any problems yet with my 20G and this is with trackdays as well but 'NO' 1/4 mile stuff after a year of use, I think mechanical sympathy goes a long way to the longtivity of these boxes. Some will get away with it others wont. Hope I havent just bloody jinxed myself lol
neill54 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 im still learning here and i gather from stuff ive read ,heard that the trannsmission will suffer greatly under this kind of pressure so where and what type of gearbox is capable of this? neil
neill54 Posted May 31, 2010 Author Posted May 31, 2010 nice one dunk cheers that solves that problem whats it like compared to your old turbo and what made you go for the 20g? neil
RA Dunk Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) nice one dunk cheers that solves that problem whats it like compared to your old turbo and what made you go for the 20g?neil lol I wouldent go as far as saying 'solved' more tend to go bang than stay together in one peice How hard you use it, how hard previous owners have used it, milage etc all play there part I guess, I was after circa 400 or so horses and there wasnt really alot of standard bolt ons available 4 years ago good for 400(ish) when I bought it, I dont think the 321H was even on the go when I got it either so the 20G was a no brainer really. The Sti 5- 6 boxes are 'supposedly' a wee bit stronger than the earlier ones. But like your own box would depend on previous use milage blah blah blah ohh compared to my old turbo its laggy as fook lol Edited May 31, 2010 by RA Dunk
neill54 Posted June 1, 2010 Author Posted June 1, 2010 I've got the same sort of plan as you had looking for about 400 horses so let's see what can I bolt on first adeeded how it goes if it goes bang then ill have to sort it Neil
arch Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Neil if your still running a TY752 box it will be on borrowed time with a 20G, a newage TY754VN4AA has more chance of holding up thats what I used last year with a 20G on the white car and I was def not sympathetic and that box had been thrashed the year before with a 16G and its still in good nick. The later hawkeye WRX boxes are stronger again but would require a change of front shafts and rear diff. There are also two flavours of Hawkeye WRX box some with pull clutches and some with push clutches, arent Subaru brilliant
neill54 Posted June 1, 2010 Author Posted June 1, 2010 Cheers arch if I wasn't confused before i am know!! Lot to think about I'm trying to source some bushes roll bars etc and brakes first try and do it the sensible way eh neil
