Aberdeenshire (Inverurie/Kintore/Oldmeldrum areas) have consistently been in the top 4 best places in Scotland for house prices rising or staying steady, etc and are lovely places to reside.

In Aberdeen I suppose Northfield/Summerhill/Torry/Tillydrone should be avoided - but only due to the minority of A**EHOLES that live there, most of the residents are decent folk.

The docks ;):)

Couldn't resist that one.

Westhill on the outskirts is a nice place as for the rest of it i couldn't say.

I'm sure some locals will be along soon.

In advance of your arrival, welcome to the north of scotland, great place to live.

Do you work in the oil industry by any chance? If not, what brings you to aberdeen? You will struggle with the local slang and language and wonder who this 'ken' guy they all speak about is aye ya ken. I'm

from new Zealand (small island off Australia lol) and have been living here for 4 years, it's a great cuty but one o the most expensive places to buy a house, most flats in 'nice' areas and I use tht term loosly go for around 100k. I'm currently typing from my phone but can write you a bigger blurb tomor if you are interested in hearing from someone who has moved to Aberdeen!

and you will also wonder about "furry boots" (where abouts) and "loons & queens" (boys & girls) Aberdeen is expensive it might be worth thinking about one of the towns outside Aberdeen ??? just a thought

Yeah pretty much what Adam says, but unless you are minted I wouldn't aim that high... Guess it really depends on what it is that you are looking for though, and what you have as a budget, as that really will make a massive difference.

Currently I live in a one bedroom flat (Apartment) in the centre, and your looking at something like £100K to buy. And as for renting, I don't know what the current going rate is for that these days, but it was mental expensive last I heard, and I don't expect that to get much better.

Russell probably has your best bet, but if you are coming into the city, then bear in mind that to get in from Inverurie, you are looking at a 20minute drive depending on traffic... could be much better if its quiet...

Overall crime levels in Aberdeen and shire are very low, and as mentioned above you just need to avoid a few areas.

I would say the first thing to find out is where your offices are based. If it's in Altens area, then I would recommend somewhere south of the city live Cove, Muchalls down to Stonehaven area for an easy daily commute. Alternatively the west end of the city would be a safe bet, though a bit pricier.

If your company is based in the Bridge of Don area, then maybe somewhere further out like Balmedie (close to the beach) out to Newburgh.

If you are going to be based in Dyce, then somewhere like Kintore or Inverurie would be perfect for a 15 minute commute in the mornings.

Virtually all the houses for sale (and rent) in the Aberdeen area can be found on www.aspc.co.uk

I would recommend renting a nice house somwwhere for say 3 to 6 months until you get to know your way around the city, do some exploring and find the sort of places you would like to live. This will give you enough time to have a good look at dozens of houses for sale.
