Bloody Turbo Bolts *@#!

I've just given the scoob a full service, all the oils now Millers synthetic, oil filter changed, panel filter cleaned, plugs upgraded, fitted 650cc injectors, fitted STi intercooler and tried to change the turbo so it's ready for Andy Forrest on Wednesday. Bloody bolts at the turbo  !!!

Just two bolts shy of getting all the work done myself, so rebuilt the thing and will limp it to a garage to change the turbo tomorrow. The next time I build my own garage I'm seriously gonna put a decent pit into the floor. I'm fed up having to get simple, but hard to get to wee things done by someone else because of lack of facilities!!

Anyone got any top tips for removing the up/down pipes from the turbo as easily as possible????

Lol!

Changed a downpipe last week on a classic. Cut the bolts off as they picked up on the way off. Even my turbo/downpipe bolts picked up after a couple of months! The heat is the problem Phil!

SO you'd say just to cut them off when up on the ramp tomorrow and be done with it?

I'm not really bothered how they come off, but as time is very short before the remap I just need it done so I don't have to reschedule with Andy  .

Just out of interest Barry, are the bolts anything special? I mean, can I just get some replacement ones from whatever garage the car goes into or will I need to get some replacements from the dealer?

use malt vineager overnight, better than wd40

I soaked them in WD40 last night, but no joy!!

Next time I'll try Neil's malt vinegar trick

650cc injectors Phil!!!

What else have you got planned?

This and that, and room for any future modding too

I had 2 of my turbo studs pick up when I was removing the nuts, in the end I had to split the nuts then use a stud extractor.

DO NOT BUY THE REPLACEMENT STUDS OF EBAY AS THEY ARE CHEAP BUT DO NOT FIT!

Any good bolts that fit Phil. I'd imagine Subaru would stock them as they'll probably replace them a lot. They won't be too dear for what they are!

Bolts nuts etc from the dealer are ridiculous prices, I found this out 2 years a go I bought some turbo flange nuts and turbo studs. I cant remember the exact price but remember being stunned.

I have flange nuts and turbo studs etc etc all over my race car all from ebay and never had an issue. I cant remember the bolt size and thread pitch but i have thread gauges if you need to borrow them. If you can get onto them can you not just shear them off. If its the back two on the turbo you need to get the car up on axle stands and get to them from underneath. Sent you a PM
