neill54 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 trying to find out if there is a way to delimit my import wrx but without changing the clocks to mph want to keep it more or less jap spec if you know what i mean neil
Kenny.S Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 The clocks output a speed signal to the ECU, at 112mph the ECU activates the limiter by putting a converter in the speedo cable, effectively slowing it down, the limiter is still there but it's at 180mph so doesn't cause many people any issues. Only other way I know of is to fit a different ecu
steveairdrie Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Hi neil I had a converter for my 95sti type Ra which was fitted on the cable running from the gearbox to the speedo. It turned your speedo to mph without changing the clocks. I might still have this in my garage if I've still got it you can have it. It doesn't remove the limiter but ups it to 180 mph as kenny said Steve
sti pretender Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 My converter plugs into the back of the speedo and the cable plugs in to that, usually about £50 on ebay.
johnnyr6 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Or do what i do, just disconnect the speedo altogether. 2 advantages, 1: No limiter 2: No mileage increase jobs a goodun, 7 years on and working great... Johnny

stum450n Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 And a good return on re-sale. Clever thinking, citylinking? Would you be happy if you were the poor sod buying a scoob that despite displaying say, 45,000 miles, had actually clocked up something like 70,000?!? I know I wouldn't. JohnnyR6, probably best to remember you posted that comment if ever you come to sell the car and add it to the forums
stum450n Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Forums are a poor medium for sarcasm eh... Doh! Think we need a big flashing neon font for sarcasm on here... gets lost amongst the BS otherwise!
neill54 Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 the reason i dont want to change the clocks is i like the whole originality about them but would like to go more than 112 at say crail etc and my clocks only have kmph on them no mph at all neil
johnnyr6 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Neil as a few have said for your year of car all you need is a mechanical converter fitted between the speedo cable and clocks or in my case the gearbox. Is your speedo still reading in kph at the mo? This converts the speedo drive from kph into mph so no need to touch the clocks. The limiter is still there but it will be at 180mph not 180 kph(112mph). This should work absolutely fine unless your intending to go quicker that 180mph. The other benefit is your mileage will increase in miles not kilometers. It is also a good idea to take a note of the mileage when you fit the converter so you can keep a record of the actual mileage of the car. Johnny
