Exhaust Heat Wrap

Can vouch for that all the wrap that was on my Race Ra came from Alyn.

Or as an alternative

Just had Stewart do my headers, uppipe, wastegate and downpipe made a cracking job of it and cheaper than you might think

Where's the best place/deals to get heat wrap from-wanting to wrap my downpipe and cetre section .

Why would you want to wrap your centre section, theres no need that part of the exhaust is in the airflow and wont cause any harm all you will do is waste money on wrap or coating, you only need to go as far as the bottom bend on the downpipe where it straightens out to run along with the exhaust.

Cheers for the info and links guys ,looked on ebay but don't want to use cheap stuff as i want to make a good job of it.Need to get the system fitted when i get back so i'll be wrapping the bits myself.

why do you only have to wrap down to the bent on the downpipe Arch -the reason behind this??

Graeme you keep the heat in the exhaust so it doesnt radiate heat in the engine bay. The centre section is under the car so doesnt matter about radiated heat there.

I think you'll find folks, that people with a lot of moeny get full exhausts done because hot air travels faster and easier than air that is cooling, so exits the exhaust quicker, and and causes less back pressure. The only thing to note, is that doing it with heatwrap is pretty pointless after the downpipe, because in no time at all, the wrap gets soaked from the road, and perishes.

Here's a similarly related question. If you heatwrap or ceramic coat a turbo to keep radiated heat in, will it not increase the running temp of the turbo and shorten its life span?

Yet again, keeping the heat in will keep the unit operating better and reduce lag. Turbos are designed to run at ridiculously high temps. The big thing that will reduce life is poor quality oil, that's the big thing to watch for on turbos (and the obvious switching off right after a run)

YES it will shorten the life of most turbo's out there. But there is turbos that can handle the hotter temps.

Some good info on here........if your building a high performance race machine

Greame the wrap will be fine for you and you can do it yourself. The DEI wrap seems to be good stuff and I have it on my headers. Mine were prewrapped when I bought them from harvey smith (scoobynetter) but you can make a good job of it yourself if you take the time to do it. You'll need some proper metal straps or ties to keep the wrap held in place for the long term. There have been threads in the past about wrapping and using sprays, maybe worth a search on here as I can't remember exactly what advice was given back then.
