Update 4 Feb 10

We are still in touch with the folks at the Vision charity and they told us that Alison donated £35,000 to Yorkhill last week to help buy specialist medical equipment for a new paediatric intensive care ambulance.

The Gathering is mentioned in the press release

...

Alison said: “This donation is the first of many we plan to make and it is particularly important that it is going towards such a worthwhile project.

Colin’s fans have been amazing in their fundraising efforts,

for example the McRae Gathering organised a convoy of Subaru Owners to drive from Lanark to Banbury, raising more than £53,000 through sales of stickers, posters and memorabilia.

“I am very honoured to be presenting this cheque today on their behalf.”

It's good to hear that everyone's efforts are going on to help others. The Gathering Team who organised the event(s) have done an amazing job, but I think everyone who attends the events and spends/donates also need a big pat on the back.

The word "community" really comes into its own on this club, really like no other. Well done!

2 Updates, 4 May 2010

Update 1 - 'Vision' charity karting success

The Vision entered 2 teams for the annual Yorkhill Children’s Foundation Go-Kart Grand Prix, and the event raised £12,000 :rotfl:

This was a 2 hour endurance race at the Scotkart indoor karting arena in Cambuslang.

Advised by Jim McRae, ex Suzuki British Superbike rider John Crawford captained Team 1 with team members Stevie Brown, David Bogie and David Wilson.

Team 2 was made up of Jo Roy and Craig Dickson, as well as Craig’s dad Graham and his friend David MacLellan.

Team 1 seemed to pick up black flags, time penalties, warnings of ‘carving up’ the opposition and overtaking manouvres during a yellow flag.

However, these tactics seemed to work, as they finished in 1st place.

Team 2 behaved a bit better and finished in 3rd place after starting in 7th.

Update 2 - Subaru and the “Vision” Join Forces to Help With Emergency Response Car

Subaru have donated a Subaru Forrester 4 wheel drive car to complement the newly equipped specialist Paediatric Intensive Care ambulance for Yorkhill that benefited from a donation earlier this year.

The Forrester will act as an Emergency Response car to be used in situations where the ambulance is not available, not fast enough or not required.

A full go-karting race report and more details of the Forrester can be found in this Link here.

several updates, 30 June

Update 1 - Scottish Motor show, Knockhill

Many thanks to col666 for taking the photo of us, sorry that Power Images wasnt mentioned in the article, I did tell them to credit you if they were going to use it.

... pleased to launch the latest models in the 'Vision' collection –which included a 1/32 slot car version of Colin's iconic Mkll Escort, complete with a 19,000 rpm motor and fully functional front and rear lights. Also having its first outing was a diecast 1:50 scale model DAF truck featuring a mural of Colin.

We had also brought along stocks of the new "if in doubt ---- flat out" t-shirts and these were to prove to be our top selling item and we had call for additional stock after a busy Saturday!

Update 2 - Jim Clark Rally

the retail unit was in Duns square on Friday night and Saturday, relocating to the service area for the Reivers on the Sunday.

Gus and Tam paid us a visit on the Saturday.

Update 3 - Chatsworth

The retail unit, the Sierra Cosworth, the Nova and the DiRT2 gaming unit went to Chatsworth Rally show.

We were raffling the chance to sit next to Jim when he took the Cosworth around the stage and

Saturday's winner from the public was young Jason Buckley of Ireland and Jimmy was amused when Jason advised him not to feel he needed to hold back in the demonstration run!

Our next outing is Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend :)

Write up of Goodwood and the winner of the first Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy now on the McRae website

on the website here - CLICKY

We had Fran the artist with us at Goodwood, and it appears that he'll be developing a print of the R4 :tumbleweed:

We were also accompanied on the stand by Fran Richley of Action-Art, who, under the easy up canopy behind the R4 set up a display of his motorsport prints.

During the weekend a picture of the R4 was commissioned and prints will be available in due course

Update 3 Aug 10

Jim McRae drives at the Barbados Rally, and clinches 2nd place behind the wheel of a 3-litre Tuthill Porsche 911

Full write up and photos on the McRae website

This bit made me laugh

I was flat-out in fifth on the fast bit of Pickerings and spotted my wife Margaret spectating, something she almost never does anymore," explained Jim.

"Her mouth was wide open and it was clear she was pretty awestruck, so I kept my foot in it and nearly missed the braking point!", grinned Jim during the Carnival prizegiving at Surfside beach bar, Holetown the following Sunday.

They weren't short on volunteers when they were planning on attending the Barbados rally, it would have been cool to go to Barbados!

the next event for the Vision retail unit is the Czech Republic, and guess who's been asked to go over?! ;);)
