maxy Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) thinking of releasing more power from the car but what is the best way to go do i get a remap do i buy a maped ecu and is it that easy just to plug it in and get the power or do i get one of those superpotatoes fitted what are the prices car is a 2005 wrx wagon with exhaust and filter fitted brakes are done so can handle more power would be interested in a group buy remap if anyone is trying to set one up thanks maxy Edited January 24, 2010 by maxy
Richie Cross Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Hi mate, Is your car PPP? Might be worth doing a few other mods so that you get the most out of a remap. I was thinking about it but Andy Forrest told me that I wouldn't see big gains with the map alone. So, took my time and got a sportscat/decatted downpipe, decatted centre section. Didn't need a map at this point but the car felt a bit better. Then sourced 550cc injectors and bigger turbo before getting the map done. Got 334/335 with my 05 WRX wagon. Have a look here. Can't go wrong and it'll give you a 'checklist' http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/58901.html

(I am still using one on a 460 BHP car). If you have a panel filter and a decent decat exhaust, a fairly sensible remap should take you to around the 270 bhp mark. However I suggest thinking carefully about your power goals/budget and then mod and tune towards it. I have spent years gradually modding and mapping my own development car and spent many a pound sterling in the process and would have saved alot of money if I had decided what my goals were from the outset and then built to that spec from day 1! Mind you, it has been alot of fun! Cheers Alistair
StewartyBoy Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Agree with both above. Set out what you intend on doing to the car and in what timeframe. If your going to change turbo's, injectors, pumps, headers etc etc, the best thing to do would be buy them all over the timeframe and have them installed before a single remap. Like Trackhound said, it will save you a fortune but you'll expect best gains from a tailor made re-map, rather than having someone install plug 'n' play parameters from someones laptop in an industrial estate.
C_WRX Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) Echo what the others are saying about get the bits-n-pieces done to make the remap worthwhile. I have a 54 Blob and had the whole exhaust done (decat uppipe, sports decat downpipe, decat centre, etc) panel filter and y-pipe then went for a remap to get an approx 279bhp/300torque - was the decatting that it's strongly advised you get the remap for. Suggested next stage is the STi route of intercooler/turbo/injectors/plugs (basically what Ritchie has) to get near the 340bhp mark. It's not cheap but you'll notice a big difference after remap the more you can get done - and of course saves on the ££'s. Sure there are folks around that would take you for a run in theirs so you can experience the difference - I was a tad disappointed in the feeling difference to my 279, but absolutely there is a difference, and that is what is driving me to one day go for the 340+ goal ! Richie Cross Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 would be interested in a group buy remap if anyone is trying to set one up These do crop up now and again but the saving (no disrespect to Andy) isn't that massive that made it worthwhile for me to wait until it was all finalised etc. I found it was easier just to go it alone.
maxy Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 think i would be happy with 300 bhp any ideas how to achieve this ie tubro back de cat good fitler what else i would i need to fit to get roughly 300 thanks maxy

Full Decat or Sportscat exhaust from turbo back 2.5 or 3” bore. Decat uppipe Pre turbo Walbro 255 l/hr uprated fuel pump K+N panel filter Ecutek Custom ECU recalibration & Twin boost set up for high/low power switchable in-car AFP 04-H custom ported hybrid turbo High Flow multi spray fuel injectors 550cc (380cc as std) Uprated turbo to intercooler 'Y' pipe NGK PFR 7B uprated spark plugs but substitute the turbo for a VF34/35 or TD05-16G turbo to get 300-320, or my plan is all that plus STI intercooler should get me near 340 !
