mctwistuk Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 The better other half has just bought a new car and the whole thing has planted a seed in my mind for maybe selling the scoob and moving on to something else for a while. I know that this is not a good idea but having had the car now for 2 years i don't know if i am just getting bored or if the whole buying a new car process has got the better of me or am i just being stupid. The only issue i have is that i have modded the car subtly with the following mods and really can't be bothered with the whole putting back to standard so my questions are 1)do dealers buy cars with mods? 2)do they take the mods into account when valuing the car and 3)roughly how much is my car worth? 56 plate STI Type Uk AF remap to around 370bhp and 380torque APS CAI Forge recirculating oil pot Full meercat sportcat system Walboro 255 fuel pump Uprated spark plugs defi bf boost, oil temp, oil pressure gauges and controller It has been MOT'd in the last couple of months. Has always been serviced at S&S in Ayr car has done 40000 miles. I look forward to any info help anyone can give cheers Chris
sparky_sj04 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Hi mate, If I was you'd I'd try to sell it privately. As for the dealers question, the man to ask would be Gav @ Ian Grieves (scoobyseller555). I think anyone would take the mods into account but by no means anywhere near as much as you paid for them. You'd probably just get book price plus a little bit more. Not sure what it would be worth but it's a similar spec to mine so I would like to think somewhere around 13.5-14k to the right buyer (privately). Cheers, Mark
Jon B Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 you will always get more for it selling private cos it'll be going to someone who knows what its worth.... most car dealers base there prices on book price regardless of whether its standard or got an all singing all dancing big power engine......
C_WRX Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) Reckon a good dealer would take it into consideration if well done (which your car of course is!), naturally nowhere near what you spent getting it to where it is though, but to realise its best value private sale is usually the way to go. There was a guy asking about finding a good 2005/2006 STi in the wanted section other day there. Edited January 15, 2010 by C_WRX
mystery machine Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 You need to buy a cheap 'runabout' second car to stop you getting bored of that STI (it really works!) What are you thinking of replacing it with?
bobbyc Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 If you get rid of it Chris you'll only waste even more money six months down the line when you miss it
fai17 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 You need to buy a cheap 'runabout' second car to stop you getting bored of that STI (it really works!) What are you thinking of replacing it with? A Clio Sport....he is a big jess
fai17 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 If you get rid of it Chris you'll only waste even more money six months down the line when you miss it Couldn't agree more
braveheart Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 If you are getting bored with it just now, I think all it needs is a few more power gains and that fun factor is back ...keep it you will regret it buy a run around..all the best with your choice.......... defo sell it private.
sparky_sj04 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 If you get rid of it Chris you'll only waste even more money six months down the line when you miss it I spend a lot of my time away at sea thinking about maybe selling up... Then I come back and drive it again and am 100% converted again! I will agree that you can get acclimatised to it when driving it every day, and the shine starts to dull. But take a few days off or (as mentioned) get a s****ey runabout for the daily grind, and I think you'll change your mind about selling!! But good luck whatever you do!
Richie Cross Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I'm with the others about getting a runabout. I take the Scenic to work quite a bit and use that on days off as it's easier for the wee one. Certainly makes me appreciate the scoob more when I get back in it
mctwistuk Posted January 16, 2010 Author Posted January 16, 2010 after weighing up the costs involved in upkeep this year i have now traded the car in. We now have a cliosport 197 and a 350z as our cars to choose from. I just couldn't justify the outlay of 2k this year when we are taking aloan out for our wedding. The clio is good for me for work and having the option of the 350z for the weekends is also good. So set of defi bf's will be up for grabs now they are amber and come with pod and controller (boost, oil pressure and oil temp). It was a asad day but for the shortterm i know it is the right thing to do financially. I welcome all comments now re i am mad:-) lol
scoobyterzo3 Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 clio's are good nippy wee cars, would imagine you will have just as much fun in it.
StewartyBoy Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I've had a good few quick Clio's including a very special old skool Dimma. Very chuckable and make you grin, what hot hatch does'nt!?
mctwistuk Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 am looking forward to both new cars. the rear while drive of the 350z is going to be fun and the smallness and easy drive of the clio will also be fun.
wrxmania Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Fancied a 350Z myself a few times...just the rear wheel drive, snow and my mountainous street put an end to that idea. Oh and 2 seats! Lovely car - they look great with monster wheels etc Brian
thefastone Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 STIMPY YOU EEEEEEEEDIOT!!!!!!!! That is all.
G.T. Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 350z is a hairdressers car each to their own though if you like it thats the main thing always fancied a quick clio though
mystery machine Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 350z is a hairdressers car It might not be a Scooby, but... Approx 300bhp, rear wheel drive and a finely-balanced chassis... ...it's a serious drivers' car - this ain't no Mini cabriolet! ...oh yeah, and a well-seductive exhaust note I'd happily drive one, and I haven't set foot in a hairdresser's for years (but that's another story ).
