Big 'D' Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Whats the best turbo to try and get 340-350bhp? Any advice welcomeCheers Geo The IHI VF30/VF34/VF35 or a hybrid TD05 would do the job. Cheers Iain

StewartyBoy Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) Depending on how its mapped really, but the larger the turbo the longer it will take to spool mate. Edited January 10, 2010 by StewartyBoy
Big 'D' Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) Whats the difference between these do some come on boost quicker than others?Cheers Geo The VF30 and VF34 are pretty much the same just the bearing types are different, the VF30 has a split thrust bearing and the VF34 is roller bearing, they both have the P18 turbine, the VF35 is of the same beating type as the VF30 but it has a much smaller P15 turbine, out of the VF range it has to be the fastest spooling turbo for its size. As already stated the TD05 16G or 18G are worth considering the TD turbos are also thrust bearing turbos. I can vouch for the VF35 as I run one on my Sti, it is a mega fast spooling turbo. G.Mac Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I was seeing 1.6 bar of boost by about 2800 rpm when I was running a VF35, also saw 370bhp on it too (maxed out my standard injectors) Graeme
P1_Paul Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 1.6 bar at 2800rpm, that's the same as my VF36, I'd need to see some logs/graphs to beleive that one!
G.Mac Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Im sure jac, Jimzer, Squirrel, Fai17 or anyone else thats been in the car will vouch for that Graeme
P1_Paul Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) The VF35 doesn't spool that fast mate. What gear was this in, are you using your boost gauge to verify that or is it via laptop? Edit - Unless you are on a 2.5, but even that is a push. Edited January 10, 2010 by P1_Paul
hi_jac Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I can vouch for graham on this one, that was one very quick road car. He gained on me when i got got the boot down first from 2nd gear to 5th going down a slip road from Renfrew to join the M8 motorway and i had a 20g @ 410bhp. That wan spooled from no where
G.Mac Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 OK mate, believe me or not have plenty of people who can vouch for the fact, blow it out yer hoop
Big 'D' Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) I cant quote boost per RPM figures but one thing I can say is that on my V3 Sti with VF35 fitted I can hit 1.35 BAR (what the car is currently mapped to) in every gear (even 1st) if so desired via my Apexi Avcr, and with that 1.35 BAR (350bhp/350ft/lbs) can get 7.7 sec 1/8 mile @ 90mph and 12.2 sec 1/4 @ 110 so I can only imagine what it would be like @ 1.6 BAR (it would be insane). Regardless of any quoted times and boost pressures the VF35 would certainly be my turbo of choice Cheers Iain Edited January 10, 2010 by Big 'D'
andrew_forrest Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 As the mapper, I can vouch for Grahams claims re boost threshold. Not typical of a VF35 I might add, just a good example Andy

lewisscoob Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I'm in the same boat as you mate, I am going for a AFP TD05-16G. I didnt want to go any bigger as I dont want to risk the 'box or internals for a while...

Not typical of a VF35 I might add, just a good example Andy Hi Andy, I'm sure you can understand my query, that's a good 4-500rpm before I would expect a VF35 to make that boost, kinda makes you think whats the point of the twin scroll if the single scroll turbo can spool as well. I'd go as far as saying that's one of the quickest spooling VF35 in the world, good claim to fame! I'm away to blow it through my hoop, not looking forward to it!! Cheers, Paul Yes Paul Greame's car indeed spool up like a wee bugger as Bill Greer ported it. But it lacks the top end power of a twin scroll....its dead after 6k! You'll smoke him on the strip and his PB on the 1/4 was set by me driving it! LOL
fai17 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Oh BTW...a would get a VF35 or VF34 for your rex.
