Jon B Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) where do i start... went out to the scoob... turned the key and she started... noticed she had no water in her??? filled water up in header tank next to turbo.... now its pissing water ... it appears to be coming from under the intercooler.. i can see the water lying on top of engine...and steam an ****!!! anyone any ideas??? i've taken the intercooler out so far but there's so many hoses etc i don't know where to start.. cheers in advance guys (edit) dug deeper and found that the water is coming from what appears to be a corroded core plug (about size of a five pence piece) which is below the throttle body.........??? would chemical metal suffice as a repair or am i gonna have to go through a shed load of grief to replace it??? StewartyBoy Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) For an engine that was re-built I can't help but think that it was patched up and sold on mate. I suggest digging the throttlebody out and having a proper look. Removing the I/C and a couple sensors, I'm sure there are four bolts that hold it into place. Might want to replace the gasket while your at it. As for chemical metal, its really just for patch jobs and I wouldnt be using it on application that has water pressure underlying. Can you get a picture of it!? If not to upload you can send it to me or I'm sure Big "D"' won't mind you sending it to his mobile, who may be more valuable in this circumstance as he seems to know his stuff Jon. I'll PM you my number and we can maybe go from there. Edited January 11, 2010 by StewartyBoy
Jon B Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 soz my typo... what i meant to say was that the core plug is on the back of the block directly below the throttle body... sits just below where the standard pipe is for the recirc dv.....
Big 'D' Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Do you know if there was plenty of anti freeze in the coolant system prior to this all happening mate? Cheers Iain
Big 'D' Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Being low on water certainly explains the temp sensor issue Cheers Iain
Jon B Posted January 11, 2010 Author Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) tbh i neglected to check the anti freeze situation.....therev was anti freeze in it but obviously there wasn't enough... i've had a mate over and he's compression tested it and given it the so hopefully there's no hidden damage... what i'm thinkin is that the core plug has already been on its last legs and the cold spell has been the last straw..the water freezing has done it right in..! my next step is to replace the blown core plug... anyone know where i can get them?? its about the size of a five p piece??? other than pishing water all over the place she's running fine.... cheers for the help guys..... i'll get pics up of said plug....
