standard is just as good but i run with a green panel filter car seams to pick up a wee bit quicker

^^^ Same here.. That's similar to what I discovered after fitting.. Although I do clean it out every few months just to keep on top of it.. No bad side effects from running it.. It's been 2 years now..

As euan suggets standard would do, but the green filter was cheaper than a new one at the time.. I heard the filters from teh STi's are supposed to be pretty good to or alternative Foam ones.. But you probably not goign to see any staggering performance difference.. THe standard intake on the impreza, albeit a bit bendy is supposed to be pretty damned effective for normal levels of performance..

Also, if a filter claims to be "high-flow" that' most likely means it potentially lets more crap through as well and does less filtering... The Green and K&N panel filters are similar with a mesh which is coated ina thin film of oil which is what is used as a filter, so they need to be cleaned and re-oiled avery so often for them to be workign properly.. But if you over oil them the oil can get pulled through the filter and start clogging up sensors and stuff..

Yeah, i think that I remember someone saying ages ago, that you have to be carefull which filters you are using, as you can bugger up your MAF... (The oily ones IIRC)

I'm using a Perrin foam filter.

No probs at all.

Just make sure you remove exccess oil from it. That's what buggers up your maf sensor.

Clean and re-oil every few months.

You'll notice no benefit in performance or mpg.

If you change your standard filter every few months then a foam one works out cheaper coz you just clean it, re-oil and pop it back in.
