As far as Tesco 99 goes, I've never heard of the problems mentioned above, Duncan Graham used to run his Time Attack car on the stuff. Shell isnt an option for me as there are none with in a reasonable distance, i have used tesco 99 in both my scoobies and i could swear that when Andy was mapping them he never mentioned any problems with tesco 99 .

corsa Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Its dealer sites that are forcing the prices up the main line sites ( Shell owned) have to stay at a local competative rate. Davie
corsa Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Guys, had a reply from Shell Distribution today in respect of the following questions; 1. Why is there so much of a price variation between sites and also it appears that dealer sites are overpriced and do Shell have any control over this? On Shell Company-owned sites, V-power products stand 6-7p off standard grades. Shell Company-owned sites will match the nearest super/hypermarket on it's standard grades, so any variation in our prices is driven by local trading conditions, but they shouldn't be that great. Dealer site prices depend on the type of deal they are on, so variations may be more pronounced. Some Dealers do premium price, and, no, we cannot prevent them doing this. I personally have seen Dealers charging up to 20p per litre above standard grade price. 2. Will Shell be going down the E85 route or similar? No plans at present. Unless there is a push from Government to do so, we would be unlikely to increase ethanol content. 3. Will the E85 bring the RON values up and will it have any effect on the running of highly tuned vehicles? Don't know. I've e-mailed a colleague at The Shell Technology Centre. I'll pass her reply on when I get it. Hope this helps answer some of the questions. If i get a reply on the RON values i will post that up too. Davie
P1_Paul Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 3. Will the E85 bring the RON values up and will it have any effect on the running of highly tuned vehicles? I can answer this one. E85 is typically around 105+ octane, but you do require 30% more flow than petrol, obviously a remap is essential. Big power cars will need huge injectors/ fuel delivery systems, even at 400 odd bhp you're looking at needing 750-800cc injectors. Running 5% bioethanol in regular fuel will increase the RON rating(Tesco do this to acheive 99RON), ECU fuel trims can easily compensate for this amount of bioethanol.

Paul can you add a % of e85 to V-power on a remapped for V-power Jdm Sti and would there be any gains or waste of money??? .Morrison's in Dundee do it
RA Dunk Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Thanks for the info Dave that's cleared up a few thing's

Higher percentages will require bigger injectors, but along with the increased knock resistance you get better spool due to the fact that E85 is oxygenated. If I lived closer to Dundee I'd map my car on E85, but it's just to far away.

W88CHY Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Thats the very one. Need to pop in there, bit easier than Bellshill from Chapelhall. Cheers Gary

Hightower Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 although there are variations throughout the garages the main reason petrol is so high os because of the economy, it is an easy stealth tax. most folk know nothing of the price os oil or the dollor exchange rate etc. so just put it down to that. petrol will go up 2.5-3 pence on january 1st as vat goes back to 17.5%. the goverment are using the extra billions from taxing fuel to pay for there F*^k ups and the banks failure of common sense, lets give shed loads of money to people with no money, then ask them to pay it back Eh? clueless, prepare to pay alot more for fuel in the future as they will alos use the excuse that it is helping to pay for green wind turbines and tree hugging hippys to play in the snow. as most folk with common sense know global warming is a con something for the world to worry about after the cold war. all the shocking figures are cooked to make it look bad,( they say 1998 was the warmest year on record (it was actually 1934)) and the ice age 10000 years ago happend because china was building a powerstation a week.............a load of rubbish. china emits more CO2 in a day that we do in a year, so why bother. came of the point but rant over!!!

Have to say, if they are, it would have been nice of them to announce it and keep customers informed and warn of potential distuption to supplies, but then I guess that might just trigger panic buying and make the situation worse Kenny
