Joe G
Thought id post up a few pics of my old cars ive had over the last few years as i found some photos on my laptop tonight. Had a couple of fiestas for the first year of driving, then took the first step to tubocharged cars with a punto GT. Great wee car but no reliability. Could probably change a punto gearbox with my eyes closed after wrecking 3 at crail on 3 occasions. Then onto (well the dark side) a 360bhp Evo V. Was a good car until things started to go wrong and the repair bills were endless!! Put the evo up for sale and had a good bit of interest, then a guy came along and offered me a straight swap for this so i bit his arm off for it! Made sure and got a full HPI check etc as the offer seemed to good to be true. 2002 wrx PPP wagon. Had the wagon for about a year and a half then the wee one was on the way so had to sell it for a deposit on a house and went scoobless 16v clio. After having turbocharged cars for the previous 4 years the clio just didnt cut it. Only had it for about 2 months before ending up with another scoob. 1996 STI. Kept this one for about a year and a half before importing a 2003 STI spec C. My current car (which I'm keeping for a good while as I have plans in the pipeline for it!! Handling and brakes coming shortly before the quest for power begins Joe Link to comment

mystery machine
Not a bad run of motors there, Joe - Spec C's certainly something a bit special I had been driving for eight years before I broke the 100bhp-per-tonne threshold (and not for want of trying, either) What went wrong with the Evo then? First of all the clutch went. Replaced it with an uprated exedy one which lasted 10days before it went too. The clutch plate basically cracked in 3 places and was causing my clutch pedal to vibrate. Called the supplier who gave me a replacement immediatly and told me that I was the 3rd person to complain and that there must have been a dodgy batch of clutches. After the clutch issues the 3rd gear syncro went in the gear box. Got that sorted and the Active yaw control packed up. (was a much more fun car to drive without it to be honest!!) Was an expensive fix!! Turbo was the next thing to go so got that fixed and got shot of it before anything else went wrong!! It was one of those cars that you knew was just a jinx!! Never mind it made me get my first scoob and never looked back Link to comment

Joe G
Sounds like a nightmare... there's always one So how do the Scoobs compare with the Evo? Id have a scoob over an evo any day. Much more responsive and more fun to drive (well the spec c is anyway ) Dont get me wrong the evo was a nice car to drive and very capable but the repair bills put me off them. Maybe i was just unlucky but not taking the chance again!! Id probably still have the wagon if i didnt need a deposit for a house at that time. Loved that car. Wonder if anyone knows of it or has seen it about?? Might ask on one of the southern sections as i sold it to a guy from just outside manchester Link to comment

mystery machine
Interesting to hear your take on "Evo vs Scooby", Joe. Never driven an Evo, but from reviews I have this picture of them having really sharp steering (very cool), but hellish harsh ride quality (not so cool). Any truth to that? Link to comment
Joe G
The steering is pretty responsive but the quick rack in the spec c is just as good. Ride quality was pretty hard but its to be expected as they are rally bred cars. Hard to tell with the state of the roads all the same!! I always wanted an evo V since they first came out (the best looking IMO) so at least i can say ive done it. The scooby V evo thing is always gonna show different views of both but for me the scoobs meet the mark!! Edited November 11, 2009 by Joe G Link to comment
mystery machine
So you definitely prefer the Spec C, but perhaps not so clear-cut for the other Scoobs? Link to comment
Joe G
Love the spec c!! Just miss the flat four sound sometimes! Nah liked all my scoobs especially the wagon as it was just different!! And the anti lag on the version 2 sti was pretty cool!! Link to comment
