Wee Jock
£1 per mile to drive in London has been suggested by the (Mayor of London), how long before this comes to a city near you. Another tax on the motorist, as if we dont pay enough. Link to comment
thefastone
Wasn't Old Boris supposed to be scrapping the congestion charges? Link to comment
StewartyBoy
I don't know mate. Everyone said that about the congestion charge, but the ripple of that never touched us. Congestion charges have'nt worked the way they wanted in London, figures for traffic are up on when it was first introduced. All this is, is another stab at trying to cut congestion I reckon. mystery machine
Agreed Jock - the latest manoeuvre in the insidious and seemingly relentless campaign to bleed us already-dry motorists even drier Link to comment
thefastone
Oh, and besides that, its not physically possible to charge on a per mile basis in a place like London... its just not physically possible... even with GPS... Link to comment

Dont know about that m8, if they have cameras that can measure your average speed by covering all entrance and exits to roads then they know how far you have travelled! Link to comment
thefastone
No, what I'm saying, is look at London, its a rat-run, a maze... its for the same reason that they cant use average speed cameras across junctions... the kind of scheme that your talking about, just for London alone would cost billions to run... Most people like me who drive in London use the ring roads the north circular and the south circular these roads skirt round the congestion charge zone, they are talking about £1 per mile on these roads and the other major roads through London, that way they would have a bigger catchment area. Believe it or not I have over paid the congestion charge on several occassions, I wrote to them looking for a refund and was told this was not possible so I was left out of pocket, they gave various reasons for not refunding me. If I can find the email I will post it up. Link to comment
hosstheboss
****ers! Let's all stop driving altogether, stop going to work, stop lining the pockets of the Oil majors and see how long this government would last then! I'm a lazy cu*t so not going to work for a while would suit me fine!!! Link to comment
