Ecu Mapping In Glasgow

Recommended Posts

After posting about my scooby running problems on here, iv confirmed the scooby needs a remap as its running a wrx ecu with a type ra engine which cant be doing the car any favours atm. So i was wondering where I should tkae the car for a map? Also, would I be better of just sticking a type ra ecu in for now and getting it mapped properly when iv finished modding the car?

What year of ecu is it, some are more difficult to map than others. If its a pre 99 one I'd recommed you wither find the correct one for it or buy an aftermarket one. Not cheap but cheaper than the results of running a car with the wrong map on it.

If it's post 99 then everybody is going to tell you the same place to go. Do a search for Andy Forrest.

The car is a 93. I have sourced a type ra ecu. Will it be a straight swap?

If you have matched the ecu to the engine, turbo, fuelling etc then the answer is probably no.

Ideally any jap import should have a remap even it has the standard ecu fitted as it will be setup to run on their 100 ron fuel and not the rubbish we get over here. That said I ran my import without a remap for over a year (with octane booster added to the fuel) and never had any problems.

If you have any doubt you could book a rolling road session, which should work out much cheaper than a remap, and they could advise you if the car was running/fuelling ok. The only downside is if it is not you may have to end up paying out for a new ecu as well.

Was looking after the pennies till I found a new job but looks like a map is necessary if I want the engine to last! Looks like andy Forrest is going to get a call really soon!
