thefastone Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Yeah thats a real Crap hand you've been dealt there G! Never actually read this untill now, but I never thought that this is what I'd be reading... Hope you get it sorted quick enough mate, and that it's not too costly...
terzo neil Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 so is the engine oot yet and have you taken the cylinder head off on that side yet
terzo neil Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 doesnt take that long to take engine out, just took out a p1 engine tonight in just under an hour as guy sheared a bolt in 1 cam cover and needs a wee clean up as well
kennyuk300 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Yes Neil you only done it so quick cause you just lifted it without the need for a lifting device you used your bare hands big man Kenny
terzo neil Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 no i didnt use my bare hands, used an engine lift............ cough forklift all unbolted properly and lifted out, found a few problems on dismantling but that will be sorted for going ba ck in, and getting some money for my hassles as well, will go and use it to finnish the new tattoo
terzo neil Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 very quiet must be more serious than we think
G.Mac Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 (edited) na, only started tackeling it today, well this afternoon. I found that Subaru have managed to place every wire and pipe right in your road, started swearing loads when I started taking the rotated turbo set up off as everything seemed to be in the road. Gave up at tea time as I started getting frustrated and wanted to swear alot. Should get it out in the morning as all that is left to remove is the engine mounts, powere steering pipes and gearbox bolts. Just been taking my time as I am on my tod and making sure I bag and tag everything along with taking lots of photos. One thing I have noticed that on the drivers side of my radiator it is all bowed with the first 3 lines of fins being all loose and ready to fall out Graeme Edited September 22, 2009 by G.Mac
G.Mac Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 ps, Anyone want an AC system for a newage?
scooby222 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 so thatl be an extra heavy duty radiator added to the shopping list then! take it as youve ripped the ac out youve decided it may as well stay out -saves weight and the effort of putting it back lol
fai17 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Might be the start of a head gasket issue G.
G.Mac Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 (edited) Yea Pedro, we shall soon find out when the heads come off for inspection (no point on doing only one side is there eh! ) Dave, Yea AC is now de-gassed, I dont use it much anyway so its coming out! Graeme Edited September 22, 2009 by G.Mac
ally-b Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 (edited) no point on doing only one side is there Graeme ....A wise-man once said "Two heads are better than one" 'Kid'ding apart Sorry I've not been around to offer a hand . I've been working 7x12 . I hope it's nothing too serious G . Al. Edited September 24, 2009 by ally-b
scooby222 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 any news Graeme? fingers crossed its not too bad
G.Mac Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 (edited) Today is the day, 4 bolts more, a bit of jiggling and it will be free! (I hope) Graeme Edited September 26, 2009 by G.Mac
terzo neil Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 you should be outside and finnishing taking the last bolts out, not playing on the forums i am out in rosyth playing with 6 tonnes of generator
G.Mac Posted September 26, 2009 Author Posted September 26, 2009 Got the Engine out and head off and I am pondering on where to go next as the heads are cracking round the spark plug holes but from what I have seen what STI heads (AVCS) arn't. Oh yea the reason for the lack of compression is due to a burnt valve. burnt seat and the cracking #2 cyl #4 cyl also got some light scoring in #2 bore Graeme
green_goblin Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Ohya thats a nasty one, hope you get it all fixed!! Jase
terzo neil Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 last picture looks like a crack in the bore looking at 5 o'clock posistion would also be worried as where the rest of the valve went, i.e. thro the turbo blades or stuck between piston and bore hence slight scoring on the bore
hi_jac Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 you should be outside and finnishing taking the last bolts out, not playing on the forumsi am out in rosyth playing with 6 tonnes of generator Shut the f**k up Neil, you are killing me.
