StrikE Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I have a wee problem with my Catalunya, sometimes it wont start! There is plenty juice in the battery so i know thats ok. [and fuel] What happens is the engine wonk crank or turn and i can see the lights on the LCD clock fade whilst the key is turned into start position. I have tried moving the car in gear just in case its a dodgey contact on the starter. It was an intermittent problem that surfaced from day one when i bought the car but recently its getting worse. i tried to start it this week with no luck. Funny thing is when it does start it seems to 'fix' itself for a while or maybe this a coincidence!! I dont know if its the starter, immobiliser or something else. Can someone with brains & experience help me out quickly as i am planning to take the Cat down for the cheque hand over. Willing to pay of course. Pretty please
badbaz Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Does the starter solenoid click when you turn to start position? If so, dirty starter. If not, need to check power to solenoid from ignition start, try a wire straight from batt + to the solenoid wire, the one from the ignition. (make sure you're in neutral! ) I've got the kids this weekend Derek but happy to have a look mid week if you have no joy! Happy to pay . . .
lumsden26 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 i had same problem with mine would turn the key then nothing to test if its the starter before you try and start it give it a tap with a metal bar or something and it will probably start. my starter went because a build up of clutch dust. hope this helps! mark
StrikE Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 I will try those ideas guys thanks Barry you may be getting a text later lol
badbaz Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I still think it's a problem with your alarm m8 Could well be John, that's why he must check the 'start' power to the solenoid. What happened to yours John? Is it the head gaskets?
StrikE Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 AND i go try the car & it starts first time Typical is there anyway around this so i can find out what the problem is?
badbaz Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Like toothache and dentist Del, go to them and it's gone! You need to have it happen and then see what's goin on. Wait till one night this week and if it happens give me a buzz.
turbo tut Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 a mates car was doing this this short ago it was very intermitten, i went through most things and what it ended up being was a dry ignition switch, wee drop o wd40 sorted, if it does it again new switch
