Mine was only a WRX ra, and if the cars fitted with all the right bits, you don't need an STi.

I had mine for 3 years. It ran 320 bhp, was stripped out and fitted with 6 pot AP's, coilovers, whiteline bits, etc.

Mine, built to that spec cost about £4500 - including the car in the first place.

I've done loads of SIDC track days, Top Marques and TrackScotland events in those 3 years, and I can't honestly remember another Subaru (including STi ra's) that got close to me, and certainly nothing that cost so little. That's the really satisfying bit.

Sure there's mega powered Subaru's about, but when they've spent 5 figures on their cars they should be quicker, but if they're not :icon_salut:

Anyway, spend wisely, get some proper instruction, drive within your limits, and most of all enjoy yourself.

Totally agree with Dave my RA is only a WRX and it turned out pretty well and there was another red WRX RA that used to frequent tracks around these parts that was fairly quick :icon_salut: . Like Dave says its what you do with the basic car that determines the outcome. The DCCD is a useful tool in the right hands but how many people with this fitted to their road car actually use it to its fullest capabilities, not many I would think. To get the best out of it you need a proper controller not just the thumb wheel gimmick that comes as standard.

How do i go about getting it checked out as i'm not really clued up in ECU's etc?

Best way is really to get on on the rollers. Hypertech and dastek both come highly recommended on here.

Cheers for all the comments Guys can't wait to pick her up tomorrow.

Regarding the Zero sport ECU and CEL ,phoned the guy today and the car has run fine with this Ecu for the last 5k on 99 ron fuel (since bottom end was done)and the CEL light was due to 2 wires (black/red) being joined together under the steering column(must be wires instead of connectors for checking fault codes) so the guy seperated the wires and the CEL lights goes of once car is started.

Spoke to someone at Wallaceperformance this morning and car going on the rollers next wednesday -should be interesting.

shes the same age as my old RA and looks very tidy :icon_salut: ...you should have 2 black connectors under you stearing colum to check the ecu fault codes (plus 2 green connectors)..this is so you can do it yourself and not waist money getting it done at a tuners/dealers...its abit fiddly the first time as thay can be stuck right up under the dash.....

if shes got loads of mods, send her to MR FORREST and get a stand alone apexi ecu..not cheep but better than a rebuild....<<<<not saying thats going to happen..maybe abit to strong of a word (sorry) but these crazy jap ecus have scary maps (like johnny said)....i would run Vpower + booster..am sure wallace will get ya sorted

if shes not got alot of mods the ecu your after is a Z5 (standard 1)

head over hear mate,,,,great bunch of guys/girls thay will keep you right...(few people from hear are on it aswell)

Followed this missus home (she was in the Bugeye Sti)and i would say it feels quicker all round -just got to remember there's no 6 th gear like the bug.....

Cant say i know the name or the car which is a bit of a surprise, the gearing on your MY is pretty short to say the least, must fly through the gears does it :icon_salut:

Posted (edited)

Yeah it does fly through the gears.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably price back box as the jap-box that's on is a bit quiet for me.

Dont think it'll make much difference going for a WRX RA over an STi RA since it sounds like Tommo just fancies a blast around Knockie on SIDC days, I'd rather buy on general condition and history than what badge its got.

Tidy looking car though, good base for a few mods and I'm sure you'll have good fun in it. :crying:

Cheers,

Grant

 genral condition is improtant since its going to be used as a track car and any upgrades are easy to get your hands on if your quick on the forsale section.

Ok had a look at the folder for the Type RA today and it was imported by Indy car sales in 2005 and sat in their garage on a sorn (and possibly a knackered btm end)until 2008 when they started getting it strppied down and rebuilt.I think it was then bought at the auction when Indycar sales went bust by the 2nd last owner.

Here's some info of the work done and add-ons;

New clutch

Engine Bored o/s 0.25mm

New pistons,rings

Oil pump

R/G Crank

All new bearings/seals

Cam belt changed

Engine flushed when re-built

All oils changed

And lots more bits and pieces coming to a total of £4005.00

Some of the new additions,

Kakumei stainless headers /up pipe

Zero sport ECU - harder map (boost set for 12 psi)

Innovate Lambda sensor and Bosch LSU-4.2 wideband, 5 wire oxygen sensor

Apexi Airflow converter (digital display has stopped working so is unplugged from ecu)

Cobra cat 1 Alarm/immobiliser.

Here's some pics from today after removing the wheels to check the brakes -desperately need new brakes!!!
