tommo9375 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) Have been thinking about getting a track car for a while as i've watch a few video's of some guys on here at Knockhill and it looks brilliant so headed off today to look at one and couldn't say 'NO'............ Pick it up Wednesday, here's the link will post up spec/pics once i get her home. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1125324.htm Edited February 11, 2010 by tommo9375
RA Dunk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Looks good but you should have went for the STi if its for track
RS Grant Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Dont think it'll make much difference going for a WRX RA over an STi RA since it sounds like Tommo just fancies a blast around Knockie on SIDC days, I'd rather buy on general condition and history than what badge its got. Tidy looking car though, good base for a few mods and I'm sure you'll have good fun in it. Cheers, Grant
cullenmin Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Nice 1, looks clean. Have you got plans to strip it & rollcage, buckets etc? Thats what I'd do Rich

DCCD is a handy thing for trackday`s, plus the STi gives more scope for mods further down the line, but hey what`s a badge
tommo9375 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 No plans to strip it yet Rich, need to upgrade the brakes and some suspension tweeks. It running at 1.2 bar at the moment ,seems quick enough for a start but i dare say the mods will come.
cullenmin Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I dont think you'll need any power upgrades until you lose as much weight as you can, and as you say, upgrade brakes & suspension. Now get a trackday booked
RA Dunk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 need to upgrade the brakes There was sombody selling AP four pots with bells and discs in the for section last night, maybe worth a look to see if there still up for grabs
RA Dunk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Still up for grabs by the look of it http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=135508 Same set up i have, the discs look new as well so should still be under warranty
Maxxed_Ross Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I dont think you'll need any power upgrades until you lose as much weight as you can, and as you say, upgrade brakes & suspension. Now get a trackday booked I'll 2nd that.... the key to going fast on trackdays is consistancy and being able to carry the speed - so get everything that isn't needed ripped out and invest in some decent coilovers There's a tracknight with Dreadnought next Thursday if you fancy giving it a shake down... I'm taking the ZR to it
tommo9375 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Cheers RA Dunk but i'm thinking of 4 pots and keeping the 16" wheels that's on it for now.
RA Dunk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Cheers RA Dunk but i'm thinking of 4 pots and keeping the 16" wheels that's on it for now. i much prefered my 16`s over my current 17`s TBH, a far better drive with 16`s IMO, if i could get 16`s over my current brake set up i would go back in a second! Cant remember what size of discs i had under my 16`s though 290 or 297 or something like that with subaru four pots
tommo9375 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Cheers RA Dunk - i can remember reading a few people saying that 16" are better for track days.

tommo9375 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) Anyone know of some 4 pots /discs and a rear brake set-up going cheaply? Also does anyone know anything about the 'Zero sport ECU' Edited July 13, 2009 by tommo9375
RS Grant Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 DCCD is a handy thing for trackday`s, plus the STi gives more scope for mods further down the line, but hey what`s a badge DCCD made little or no difference for me on track days, you'd have to be a severely talented driver to make the most out of such a small feature IMO, either that or a little delusional in believing that its helps you along to any great degree. Anyway, I'm not going to clutter up the guys thread with a proper reply challenging the fact that apparently an STi is the only choice for track work, I don't agree, so we'll just leave it at that. Cheers, Grant
johnnyr6 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Zero sport ecu's are top quality in japan. Unfortunately a lot of them run aggressive maps and don't like our fuel (even v power isn't good enough). which leads to det and engine failure. Get it checked out asap to make sure it's running sweet. When i first got my car it felt really strong but was detting like mad, so much so the dyno operater thought i had put 95 ron in it. Anyway nice car, just make sure it's running sweet. johnny
tommo9375 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 How do i go about getting it checked out as i'm not really clued up in ECU's etc?

RA Dunk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Anyone know of some 4 pots /discs and a rear brake set-up going cheaply? Also does anyone know anything about the 'Zero sport ECU' Try Japperfermonceparts, they often have brake kits for sale, if they dont they normally have a pretty big selection of cars waiting to get broken up they might have some on, their not the cheapest of people to deal with though

tommo9375 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) Can anyone shed some light on this; The Zero sport ECU is giving the car a CEL Light -but the guy said this is due to the change of ECU's.-the car seems to run fine. How do i read the codes, plug the two connectors together under the steering column? Can i go to the likes of Wallaceperformance in Aberdeen or Japperfermonce in Ellon to get the car checked out? Or would i be better sourcing a standard Tyre RA Ecu?? Edited July 13, 2009 by tommo9375
RA Dunk Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 How do i read the codes, http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECU
