500+ On The Road

Now I have had some time finding out how the car feels with the new power levels I can tell you it's more than enough for everyday driving on the roads.

Yesterday I nearly lost it big time when flooring it in 2nd in the dry. Caught a slight bump in the road and it literally through the whole car towards the nearside pavement. Backed off just in time.

The road surfaces demand a lot of attention when you know you are going to put your foot down, and it is evident in most gears.

As Gramby will tell you, even in 6th gear the car pulls very well and resulted in us going around a sweeping left at 145mph before I lifted.

The main problem is traffic. B roads with a car at 200 - 300 Mts in front is no good. You will be up on them within seconds then you realise just how high your speed is at your braking point.

I was speaking with Paul (Zen's) last Saturday (when I took Gramps to collect his car) and he said "if you are going to have a accident it will be avoiding other cars" and that's about right.

Bloody good fun though

Hi Skull

Sounds awesome, are you still running standard brakes?

What about chassis tweaks to help get the power down better and improve handling and control?

You may have done all of this and apologies if you have.

With that sort of power a fully supportive package is a must, rather than just the power increase.

By the sounds of it you have a beast and a half on your hands there mate, fair play, imagine it in the WET.....

Scotty, changed brakes to Ford Granda (large drum brakes) but not up to the job :)

Chassis tweaks consist of welded 2 inch poles from chassis legs to inner wings and 35 lb springs from a Thwaits 3 ton dumper.

Sounds harsh but works well in the dry.

As for the wet, that will be dangerous.

Just kidding mate

Sounds as though your just starting to get to know the new power/feel. :rotfl:

I can understand the feel and sometimes the bite the cars now got, due to the fact that the power is on you before you have time to realize.

Before at 380bhp you could plant the right foot to the metal, make a phone call and still have time to think about a gear change where as now your thinking a gear change in front and questioning WHY the car in front is braking so hard when theres nothing in front of him.

I'm so glad that Olly and Matt didn't have your car ready early in the spring as I doubt if you would still have her Clive.

This is a FABULOUS  road car that verges on a race tool and might be the ULTIMATE :P road machine.

I drove the MG SV prototype, a few years back, tuned to 650 bhp with road/race suspension and that was a carbon fibre race beast that was only good for the track.

Clive's car is almost on the same level but is so much more user friendly.

As Clive's already told us "when you drive this car the thinking has to step up to a higher level" and he is so right.

This time next year you'll be safe to go out with Clive, but until then I'll do the driving when I'm in it with you, thank you. :)

"This time next year you'll be safe to go out with Clive"

:P:) Sensible thinking

It's a bit dangerous finding the limits of this thing now, but I am getting there.

What's different is there is no fading of power from 4000 to 8000 (as you know Hugh, having driven it), and "keeping" your right foot flat through the gears can catch you out in a fraction of one second.

Track days will be a lot safer due to surface conditions.

On your private test track Clive ;)

LMAO @ that. ;)

They are bigger than your steering wheel mate!

Just had a good read through your S Net thread, same brakes as mine but i have the black calipers!

Great choice i am actually just about to flog mine cleaning them up as we speak and will be photographing them this weekend ready to post.

Cracking set up on the car mate!

How have you found Exe TC? I called them 6 seperate times when i was looking at a suspension upgrade for the RB and they never once called me back! There loss i suppose.

I cant fault the EXE-TC Scotty. Wet & dry conditions feel really positive.

As you know they have 40 settings per corner and I run on the road with a 20/20/20/20 set up.

I have just set them to 27 to stiffen them slightly and you can really feel the difference.

Yep, the AP brakes on the car are really impressive.

Good luck with yours ;)

Thanks i am unsure what to put them up for sale for 2.5k+ only 500 miles ago??

Yeah EXE-TC's seem the way to go.

I have seen first hand loads of issues with failed AST's and am yet to hear a bad word about the EXE-TC's, some amount of settings to play with, gives loads of scope for finding the right balance.

Hats off to you for clearly not settling for anything other than the best for your motor, you have obviously researched EVERY part before putting it on.........takes dedication and a deep pocket!!! Fair play.

Thanks Scotty.

To be fair RCM had a big part in advising me of what was best.

They have found what works well on their car and my car is increasingly sharing more of The Gobstopper parts.

Credit where credits due Clive, but you are the man that has to find the dosh in the end. ;)

As I've said before Clive "I LIKE YOUR CAR" and my people will be around tomorrow to collect it for me. :D

Lol .yeah right

The map sensor failure Hugh, it was never working correctly from when I collected the car in the first place.

I know this because since Matt changed it and then I drove over to Motec where Dave tweaked while I was driving.

I never gave it any driving back with Dazzler, but since then I have given it some and it's much more responsive. You too would feel quite a difference.

Best thing is I received a text message from Matt tonight. It said "more power to come when you are ready for it mate".

There is a restriction on it until I decide to run either power pour or Bio.

And then there is NOS :D

I called it the 600+ Project and it will be one day.
