scoobnoob Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Hi all, I've converted my classic RA to brembo calipers, but now there's only about 1mm left on the brake pads, and the discs dont have much left in them either, so it's time to get new one's; especially with the AF tdo5 20g going on next week :-) Has anyone found a good combination of discs and pads, that are good for track use ? also can anyone tell me how to upload pictures? cheers
paul555sti Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Speak to Ian at godspeed brakes or alyn at asperformance they will give you some great advice.
arch Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Speak to Alyn at AS Performance you will get a better price. It all depends on your budget. Alyn advised me to change from DS2500's to Performance Friction pads on the RA and there is virtually no price difference. I was going to put DS2500's on the front of the road car but Alyn advised me to use a set of endless racing pads which were as good in terms of braking performance but were a bit cheaper and lasted longer. In terms of Discs if you can afford them the PF friction bells and rotors are the way to go but they are around £550 a pair so not cheap. If the car is a road car with the odd track day a decent set of grooved discs would be more than enough but as mentioned before give alyn a ring I use him for all my spares on the race RA and my road wrx and he hasnt been beaten on price so I dont check anywhere else now. There are so many options around and it really depends on how you use your car, your budget etc etc
Gee Wr1 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Can't recommend the Performance Friction disc/pad combo highly enough, fantastic stopping power. There's a lot of us WR1 owners using this set up with the Brembo calipers & we all rave about them. Great on the road & are supposed to be great on track but i can't comment on that as not used them on track. For example of track performance Dynamix (Duncan Graham) used them for time attack on his hawkeye scoob up until the start of this seasons TA & always rated them & said there was no fade, if they're good enough for time attack they're good enough for me on the road lol
frank c Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 As above really...if your budget can stretch to the performance friction set up, i wouldn't look elsewhere. Alyn (AS Performance) is always worth a phone call though, you can't go wrong with free, expert advice ..
hi_jac Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Performance friction and DS300+ It's like throwing a anchor out the window stopping power is amazing. Just bought new pads and AS Performance was the cheapest and first class service.

AS Performance is your man for parts and stuff. I have a biggish order coming up from him soon.
arch Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) If there is any interest I can speak to Alyn and ask him to set up a group buy on any parts people are after. I have spoken to him about this previously and it is something he is keen to do. I will be speaking to him on Tueday anyway Edited May 23, 2009 by Arch
scoobnoob Posted May 23, 2009 Author Posted May 23, 2009 cheers guys for the info, I'll be calling AS Performance. A group buy would defo be of interest arch, keep me posted when you get any details the cars nearing completion, I cant wait to get it up to knockhill for a blast
arch Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 If people let me know what they want group buys on i will let Alyn know. I did laugh recently. There was a group buy on scoobynet for a timing belt kit. AS Performance normal price was cheaper and inc a new tensioner did have a chuckle. Alyn is also very good for milers and Motul oils as well as clutch kits etc well pretty much everything but for a group buy we would need a few people interested in individual parts.
scoobnoob Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Well I'd be looking for Performance Friction front discs and pads to fit my brembo's
Rednosespeccltd Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Be carefull when you buy the Performance friction set up, i have this on my car and i have no complaints about there stopping power as i foud out on th first Lanarshire meet, i loved them and would reccommend them. However, it all depends on the drive you will do as i have found out that if like me you only use them for a small commute each day they do not get up to temp and will wear quickly, howver as soon as they are warm then they apply a layer of the pad to the disc and they are immense. I have only had mine a year and done 4500 miles and they are worn more than they should, duncan (dynamix) gets 16000 out of a set for TA as he is using them to their full potential. I have now received another set from PF for half price as the GB i got them from would not even entertain any corespondance from me, also make sure that the supplier is a authorised PF one as the one i used was not(aztec performance) and they had bought the pads and discs straight from US and had no dealer back up. IMO they are fantastic brakes but make sure if you are getting them that you are using them to thier full potential. i will still use this set up as i cannot fault their performance. Mac
