Need some advice, Got a 55 plate blobeye wrx and it's time to mod.

Can someone tell me what a newage intercooler is good for power wise looked at the Andy Forrest web site and on the newage he dosen't list the sti intercooler till you go for the 20G turbo.

These are my plans VF35 turbo, pink injectors sportscat fuel pump etc. But basically keep the wrx intercooler has anyone else done this route.

I looked at previous posts and found one by cal who done the same but without the injectors his power was what i'm looking for but will i get a little more using the pinks.

And will i need to uprate my brakes.

I've done the whiteline rollbars drop links and anti lift kit. Braided brake hoses and ebc red stuff pads and 5.1 brake fluid.

Not too far away from your car, I have a 2004 WRX.

My next stage is same as you, having max'ed out the TD04 turbo I have with items noted on Andy's site. Andy told next stage for me to reach 330-340 was to change the intercooler (with undertray of course) VF34/5 & injectors. I think the intercooler would limit your increase and if you're going to do it best do it properly !?

Yes, more BHP power = need for more stopping power too. Just keeps mounting up doesn't it !!

I ran with a standard WRX TMIC with the VF34 at 340/400 for long enough but was advised by AndyF to upgrade to the STi topmount. He informed me that the STi TMICs were becoming more and more difficult to get a hold of because people were realising just how good they are and where holding onto them. Anyhoo, once I got a hold of one and got it fitted (with a bit of jiggery pokery at Hypertech) I revisited Andy and he checked the map. After another going over, the car put out an extra 1bhp, ha! Then again, I still have the standard WRX undertray. Bear in mind though, ICs are support mods, not performance mods; so you wouldn't see an increase by adding a bigger one, but the greater safety margins offered by a larger one will allow the mapper to give you more power as the bigger IC will keep things that little bit safer. (I think!)

The injectors on the 06 Hawkeye car were all I needed, so need to uprate just yet. As for the injectors in the Blobeye... no idea!

Anyhoo, hope this helps

Edit: Just to say that after one session at KH with the power upgrades, I destroyed a set of standard discs (warped and heat fractured) and heat-damaged the pads. If you're going to unleash your new power, you really are going to need bigger stoppers!

Thanks for the reply's.

I have an sti scoop with a wrx undertray modified to take advantage of the bigger scoop. But sure i read somewhere that most of the air will go to the back of the intercooler, But I could put another plate on the undertray so air would go to the front aswell ie be more efficient. Could someone tell me if this is correct.

I can see what you mean by the safety margins welsho so thanks for that.

Sorry to slightly hijack the thread, but its relevant in a way.....

Anyone know what Turbo, Injectors and Fuel pump are fitted to a GB270? Planning a visit to Andy F soon, and wondering whether the above items will need replacing to get near 300bhp, or if this is achievable with whats fitted. (Bearing in mind that a GB270 is basically a WRX with PPP)

All i've done so far is upgraded exhaust from 2nd cat back, and HKS Panel filter.

Any help appreciated.

If I remember correctly I'm sure it's a TD04 thats fitted to the GB207, need the uprated 255ltr/hr fuel pump about £85 - £95 & the injectors that are fitted are the STI ones good for 350bhp, as Welsho says better getting the intercooler for safety margins,

He usually has JDM STI TMIC on the shelf removed from delivery milage cars prior to getting modded naxt door at Litchfield, you might have to pay around the £300 mark but they are genuine new parts & they cost more than twice that from the stealers, you will also need to get the undertray & rubber seal to get the full benefit & direct the full flow of air across the face of the new intercooler, & then brakes & a map even more ££££££sssssss  no  credit card maxed out, wife moanin like F*** great fun this modding carry on

Double checked with Andy F the answer is no, it would have to be polished & ported & it might just make it but you really need to go up to VF34 / VF35 which is good for 340 - 350 if you ever wanted to go that far.

once the modding starts it never stops mate....may be a wiser move to go for a front mount just now cos when you start going for more power then it will probs mean changing the intercooler again as part of the mods....(not trying to sound negative btw, just been in the position where ive spent money on mods, then more changing them again shortly after  )
