paul555sti Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 There's only 12 months in a year, it could go on forever. But we, as a club, need to decide on what should be featured on it. A poll seems like a good idea.Members post shots of their cars, a poll is made from the shots, and the members (oops, my membership has lapsed) decide on the final 12. edited to add, don't want to hi-jack this idea C_WRX, just knocking some ideas about Its not hi-jacking mate as all these things will need to be discussed in the long run anyway. It might be an idea to come up with some layouts where more than one car can be featured on each page? Also if it was to become a yearly thing then maybe cars that are featured one year cant be entered the next to try and give everybody a shot.
C_WRX Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Absolutely it isn't taking over !! Go for it ! I am just happy it was taken as a decent idea and I didn't get the p1$$ ripped out me !! I'd be happy to help and stick my oar in where can.... Moving on from some other ideas : "-12 of the sexiest scoobies on here and get decent shots of them (making sure that all ages are covered)?" My original thoughts were maybe not all 12 months of individuals cars, perhaps good to get some group shots of cars, e.g. regional meets / Falkirk wheel mag / Highland run / as many special editions in one place / etc ?? Gets more people/cars involved. Encourages people to look for that amazing pic when they're at the meets which if it doesn't quite make the calendar we can still all enjoy on here anyways. Some arty f@rty ones also to keep it professional..ish looking though. I'm a shocking photographer so wouldn't do mine justice in a pic (that's an example as I'm quite sure there are plenty of better looking cars than mine out there !!) - do we get pics of folks cars then if req'd set up a good local photographer to go "on location" ? A poll of some kind where folk can vote on what is used is good idea, rules out possible bias. Although not a surprise when the calendar comes out ?? Cars featured one year can't be used individually the next sounds fair. "Do we pay for a company to design the calendar, or have it done to a very high standard for free?" To me, so far, it seems that we have the photography and knowledge skill here. "Do we take orders/payments in advance then have a batch of calendars printed?" Depending on costs, take pre-orders (and hope they're good ) but if can have extras made up ?? "Do we just cover Scotland or make it nationwide? This could prove difficult unless there's photographers available wherever needed." Walk before we can run, if goes well this year then spread it out further next. Scottish Scoobies in the pics but offer the calendar for sale to all at SIDC (and friends/family/work mates/etc) and that'd gauge how popular it would be in the rest of the country ?? Any other ideas ?
pmacFTO Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 If the calendars are printed on a Litho press then it's not so easy to do extra after you have printed the initial batch and not that cheap as you have to set up the machine for the job again further down the line, but printing them digitally would make a big difference to that aspect and they could even be printed to order or in batches of 10,20, 50 etc.

Scottish Scoobies is big and varied enough that we can cover different group shots. Each month can have more than one picture, I'm thinking one main feature picture but then perhaps 4-6 smaller pictures around the main pic? something like 1 - group shot 2 - Gla region cars 3 - Edn & Lothian region cars 4 - Central region cars 5 - Elgin/Crief/Beuly region cars 6 - Aberdeen region cars 7 - SIDC track days 8 - competitions - hill climb, Scooby Sprint, Time Attack, 9 - big meet 1 eg Falkirk Wheel photoshoot 10 - big meet 2 eg Skye weekend 11 - big meet 3 eg Scottish Meet and ceilidh 12 - all Impreza eras (classic, bug, blob, hawk, hatch) 13 - all special editions? 14 - Santa Cruise? 15 - self build "project" pictures

I do think that one main shot of a car with some little thumbnail type images going down the side or along the bottom of the featured pic would look good though. This could show different views of the featured car or other cars in the same class (e.g. body style). For me its a case of picking the 12 best looking/unusual cars, and go with that. Someone suggested people taking pics of their cars and posting them up and deciding on that. That sounds like a good idea to me. Lastly: I think there is enough people on here with the ability and resources to be able to come up with the goods without having to go to the pros. I guess when it comes to reproducing them, then proffesional services will be required.
ScottyRB320 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 What charity are we going for? Since we are looking at a "Scottish" only calendar can i be as bold to suggest that the funds go to a Scottish charity rather than a national one? Makes sense that the effort and funds stay in Scotland. Anyone got any specific charities close to their hearts? I suppose to ensure fairness a poll of charities would be needed as well? Regards ScottyB
micra_wrc Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 What charity are we going for? .... how about splitting the profits evenly across each Scottish region and it can go towards their Santa Cruise? Imy
dan_jess Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Could have a car of the month type thing and the winner goes in the calendar? Obviously already in April so the missing months could be made up of group shots or arty shots perhaps
stum450n Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 "Do we pay for a company to design the calendar, or have it done to a very high standard for free?" Don't worry about paying for it... If pmacFTO has no objections, I would like to offer up my services on the design front (Don't want to step on your toes mate!). My website has some examples of previous work done a year or two ago... (www.stumason.com) I know I'm south of the border but if you guys are going to run with this, whats the harm in having it look seriously good eh? Especially if it's going to cost nothing! Cheers, Stu
stum450n Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 np m8, your typography is better anyway Awwww, thanks mate!
Maxxed_Ross Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I've done a calendar for the MG owners club for the past 3 years, and to be honest that FTO one on then other page blows it right out of the water. Top job I'd deffo be in for one on here

stum450n Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Niiiice work mate Cheers! Been a while since I did that so to me it looks old. Pity my contract won't allow me to use my work on my own site for a year or I would have some newer, more exciting work up there!

braveheart Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I'd be up for this...cool idea ! Snap I'd be up for that, anything to do with Charity, if my car was lucky enough to feature on the callender. Great idea... Chris
Maxxed_Ross Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 From my dealins with making them in the past I'd keep it Scotland only.... if you get too many cars involved it gets very very complicated - plus if you keep it local you have more chance of your car being in it
