Just Picked The Sti Up!

Hi,

Just picked my STI hawkeye up tonight. drove it from oldmeldrum to fife, hated driving on the motorway but as soon as i put it on the twisty roads it came to life! defo needs better ARB's etc though. Performance is fine just now.

One thing i noticed when i got her to my dads private track that over 100 mph there is a whine type noise. It kicks in at 100 exactly, so i was wondering if this was some kind of warning signal like the rev limiter beep. Or is something fecked??

Anyway, now to buy all the bits that i want for the car. carbon bits, front splitter, suspention work etc etc

Also will need to sell the private plate SV07 SUB what you guys think this is worth?? think new it was £470??

Also whats the best panel filter to buy?? and whats the best oil filter?? i saw some pink STI ones for sale on the net. Gonna sign up for the full membership too!

I think the whine is tempremental. I had it a while back but not heard it since. For me it sounded like aerodynamics with the airflow going over the wing mirrors. Another memeber on here had the same noise but not sure if his has passed or not.

Suspension upgrades with whiteline products definately a good way to go!

enjoy the grin mate, wont wear off for a few weeks ;)

whine could well be the windows peeling back, the wonder of frameless doors lol

for air filters its green or k&n usually-got a green this time but think i preferred the k&n's

suspension upgrades are definitely the best improvement-if you can live with them go for coilovers as soon as

Already sorted some whiteline gear once i get back from my honeymoon....

front and rear ani roll bars

front and rear drop links

anti lift kit

lowering springs

diff bush kit

front top mount camber adjusters

Think thats a good start for the first upgrade. Will probably fit front and rear strut braces. Sen cheap ones on e bay with pink end caps for £90 a pair. gonna buy a one of those front splitters (HA or HT auto's i think) and a gren or K&N panel fitler. The car already has a back box so i'll probably buy a de-cat pipe as i should get away with that just now without a re-map. Whats the best centre de-cat pipe??

:) Probably the windows or mirrors, (assuming no loose bodywork) My old Blob STIs used to suffer from it over 100mph, but strangely the Hawkeye doesn't at all (?????)..

Wouldn't think you'll get that much for the plate, unless of course you find somebody with an 07 scooby and the initials S.V.

My girlfriend bought me MC55 WRC because my initials are M.C. and i think it was somewhere around £250, as were all the plates with SUB and WRC etc. on them. Then again I do think they have all come down in price - so yours possibly was £470 when it was purchased..

Cheers,

Mark ;)

My RB makes the same kinda noises but not all the time. Sounds like it's coming from the NSF door area so could be the mirror or the window i suppose. I was going to say just crank up the stereo but the road noise drowns it out anyway!

As for the number plate thing i have bought 3 plates - X4 HOS for myself @ £320, M100 HOS and S100 HOS for wife / daughter were both £250. I did put in a bid for HO55 ACK of £4000 but didn't get it - maybe just as well as there would have been a fight as to who's car it went on!!! B)

Ok, so it looks like another mod is on the list then! some smaller carbon mirrors.

Now to find a set that is still motorised??

Think i'll just put the plate up for £250 and i'll pay half of the retention fee.

Welcome mate,

My Hawkeye does exactly the same noise on 100mph, Although i do not have a private track to test it, i just use the M74,LOL

Get the HT autos splitter mate as its plyable and not stiff fiberglass and will not shatter when you clip the kerbs as you will do, also i think the droplinks on Hawkeyes are already the alloy ones, not 100% though.

Gus (the bus) on here got me front and rear braces mate for cheaper than you mentioned and he fitted them as well, top guy.

every scooby I have owned have made this noise (just to remind me - that I'm in the lose licence speed range)

to cure noise I just lower the window a little and then put it back up. it's just the joy of a frameless window.

Will try the window "down and up" trick and see what happens - never thought of trying that

I'm sure you'll find that the noise is the air going past the wing mirrors happens regular (Blobeye STI)
