Got Pulled By The Friggin Police Today

The police up here have been going crazy lately stopping motorists left right and center and there stopping people for very poor reasons eg sir you look a bit young to be driving a car like this (a 2002 Astra SRI)the guy is 23. Today was my turn the followed me for ages before they pulled me and the first thing they said was sir your exhaust is very loud and he asked me to rev the car i mean its a god damn Prodrive back box i have so any hoo it turned out it was not as loud as he thought so the next excuse was my number plate which is very easy to read i have to say but even so i now have to change it  they told me they spotted me days ago but have only managed to stop me today .

My friend bought a Scoob 2 weeks ago and whilst doing nothing wrong has been stopped 4 times since for numerous reasons. 3 Weeks ago my fiancé was stopped they followed her for around 8 miles in to the country in the dark sitting very close to her and they then flashed her with the head lights numerous times to get her to pull over but she wouldn't till they put the blues on they then quizzed her as to why she never pulled over sooner i mean what young lass in the right mind would pull over for some one flashing there lights Idiots. Meanwhile in Kirkwall there is alot of vandalisim 's going on cars being damaged and so on and they cant work out why all this is going on idiots !!!

Urgh anyway my little rant is over am just getting fed up with this police state we have up here. A little fact for you there is more Police officers per head in Orkney than there is in London, Birmingham, Glasgow or most other big city's how crap is that

Bit of a bummer mate... at least they didn't ticket you, unless I misread ur post.

Sometimes I wonder if the polis just do that to sort their monthly figures out... they'll have targets to hit so the politicians can say they've got solid crime reduction figures to take back to the electorate.

Sadly the definition of crime seems somewhat wayward at times!

Mind you, quizzing ur missus as to why she didn't pull over... that's just inexcusable density!

Two sides to this for me :

Not so popular one but explained as best I can - if your car had been pinched and they pulled it over you'd be well happy, once for a quick check surely isn't too much of a hassle. Also reckon they're more interested in you being owner/had a drink/insurance/etc which is a plus finding folk negligent in those things.

Other side - pulling your friend over 4 times, if for rubbish reasons, is a bit much. Same with your fiance, she absolutely did the right thing not stopping till the blues went on and even then she should have locked the doors till ID was produced. Even contacting the local station and explaining the story to someone in position there would perhaps help them think before pulling someone over in the middle of nowhere at night with flashing headlights. Their common sense not used there !!!

I'm sure there was a boy a few years ago got off with a speeding conviction cause, as I remember the rough story, he had just been threatened in Strathy (I so didn't want to shorten that name but Strathclyde Park is so long winded  ) and a few minutes later a car started chasing him on to the motorway, 5 miles later the blues went on and they booked him - court deemed the police waited too long before making him aware who they were.

A bit of baiting methinks... naughty.

Hi

I had something similar a couple of weeks ago, I left the house to go to cumbernauld and as i got onto the main st in plains i noticed a marked BMW traffic car overtaking traffic behind me so i moved over slightly as i thought they were going after someone. As he came in behind me i thought here comes the lights for a check i was sitting about 30 minding my own business so i carried on to cumbernauld with them sitting behind me and dropped my mum off at her nursery to pick up her car. As i done a u-turn to come back to airdrie they swung their car round and followed me all the way back to airdrie then disappeared as i stopped at the shop a couple of minutes from the house. That pasted a good 25 30 minutes

cheers steve

I was stopped in Aberdeen a while back after they followed me for 20 mins and it was the same reason " you look a bit young to be driving this car, are you sure you have proper insurance" the list of pointless questions went on. All I said was yes the car is mine, i paid for it and yes its insured. The young officer was on a power trip and started ranting about how he saw me speeding around the city centre a few nights previous. Funny how i was only just in aberdeen that day.

After a small arguement about my whereabouts a couple of days earlier the young cop took the humph and then said he had reason to believe i was under the influence and this was now his reason for stopping me. So I said "OK, give me a breath test then"! The reply i got was " believe you me son! If i thought you were under the influence i'd breathalyse you". So i said to him then "was that not the reason you stopped me????"

He then proceeded to check out the whole car and could find nothing wrong with it. The senior officer who was taking a back seat throughout the whole thing eventually told me to go on my was and told the young officer to get back in the car.

To me this just looked like them trying to stitch me up for anything. Not very professional to be honest!! But what can you do about it - Absolutly F all!!

(Police hat on)

While I don't approve of the same cops (if that's the case) stopping the same person over and over, you have to

remember that we don't need a reason to stop you really. We can tell you it's for this or that.

Thing is, if there hadn't been situations where someone young was driving a certain car and it turned out they

didn't have insurance or no licence at all, young drivers wouldn't get stopped....but unfortunately that happens

a lot.

So, for the sake of a quick check, is that not better than that young driver who isn't insured not being checked and then crashing into you/partner/family member etc?

Recently I was behind someone doing 30 in a 60...long queue of traffic behind so I stopped them. I didn't know if they were drunk/ill etc until I stopped them so it has to be done.

There is so much that goes on in relation to other crime involving cars aside from driving offences that if cars weren't pulled, a lot of folk would get away with a lot of stuff.

Unfortunately, like other jobs, there are ar$es so it's just your luck who you get.

Me and the missus have been driving 20 odd years between us and neither of us have ever been pulled over so I guess when you do, it seems worse than it is?

As for all the cops in Ork...send some down my way!!! We're always short!!

I got stopped a few years ago in a Cavalier, just because i 'look' at the thick fuud the wrong way. i was then asked to show the 'kind officer' what was in my boot, i was then presented with his nose 3 mm away from mine and asked what the phuck my problem was?! Close enough for him to spit/slabber on my face while 'talking'. I seen that kind officer a few weeks later at the petrol station, out of uniform and on his own, he couldnt even look me in the eye. Amazing what a uniform will turn some idiots into.

On hind sight i should have gone straight to the police........ oh wait that was the police....

To be honest there are a few bad nasty apples out there but a few of my mates are coppers and the vast majority are completely spot on, unfortunately the few ruin it for the rest.

MMM i have had a similar, incident a while back i was stopped by Lothian and borders Traffic Police, in my STI, on the dual carriageway heading east towards lizzie brice round-about, A Police unmarked car was in stealth mode behind me i was doing the speed limit and seat belt on, which was 50mph on the Dual carriageway, then decided to flash me i was heading to the garage and was about 50m from the Round-about so common sense dictates not to stop on a Round-about, any ways i indicate and i pull into a cetrain garage, and PC plod comes up to my car...

Knock on my window and ask me to turn the engine off and step out the car which i did so, he was middle aged man with coffee breath.. not nice ... anyways on that note he began to ask me certain questions which i answered with no attitude, he then asked me to go to his the vehicle, whilst he does his P checks on me... again waiting a further 10 mins untill he requires all this information..... i asked the question is there a problem officer... and then out of the blue he began to loose control, i then asked him not to shout at me as i was starting to feel the blood boil slightly and thought to myself behave...it then calmed down and another squad car arrived with all blues flashing.I was like mmm whats going on here, a SGT had arrived on the scene and the two of then started chatting pointing to me and my car, i tried to get out the car to find out what was going on however normal drill's doors were locked, sat in the back for a further 20 mins whilst they chatted some more and thought to my self sod this.. got my cell fone out and decided to call a certain D.I of Lothian and Borders that happens to work in the West lothian and explained all actions by these officers.. all to get a ticket.. then another 10 mins on Road safety...

After this numpty had finished, i went straight up to the desk and ask to speak to the duty Inspector which he agreed. After explaining everything as all would of been on camera, i took this officers badge number name and reported this and made an official complaint, of his proffesional conduct which was nil, this inspector knows i work in a Hostile enviroment, and work with some special people we would say...I then put it in on formal headed paper and wrote to the Divisonal Commander.. actions were taken against this officer, was giving a warning and a mark against his name on his record, they are just like you, and me if you make a complaint its law this must be investigated internaly and if not satisfied then can push further...so if you feel that you have been mistreated then use there chain of command that what its there for, they are under the same law as you and i and abusing powers to be in an offense of conduct.

However they are not all like that.. have had the odd laugh at work with some of the coppers ive worked with..

Glad i got that off my chest lol...

I've only been stopped for a spot check in 8 years of Scooby ownership. However in my younger days any time I had the unfortunate pleasure of a talking too by the Police their attitude stank. I can honestly say that I was asked if 'I wanted a severe kicking or points' for allegedly running a red light! Amazing how 2 guys in their uniforms can intimidate a person on their own. From that day on my view on Police changed forever.

i had a similar experence.

got stopped driving a mates car home as mine was off the road a few years back, it was 1.30am and i did not mind the check as has been said before if no cars got stopped police would never find stolen cars.

i got asked if it was my car by the 2 young cops, i said no its a pals, they then asked if i was insured, i said yes, they asked if i had fully comp, i said no:L

next thing they were out with the cuffs and wanted me out the car, i asked what the problem was and they said driving with no insurance, i tried to explain i had third party but had drive any car added.

they said it was impossible to have drive any car if i don't have fully comp, to which i asked them if they worked as cops or insurance company.

i refused to get out the car to get cuffed as i was outside my house parking when i got stopped and was not getting cuffed and taken to the cells at 1.30am when i have work at 8am and i had the documents in the house if they wanted to see them first, which they never.

30 min later there sarg arrived and asked what the problem was, i said all i want is a chitty to produce my insurance the next day and he agreed that its not the police job to argue over my cover and chitty was issued.

the next day the 2 young police were at my door to say sorry for giving me a hard time

also if you ever get stopped never jump out the car:L

i thought i'd be a nice guy another time when i got stopped. i pulled up, took seat belt off, and walked up to the cop car to ask what the problem was.

i then got a fine for not wearing a seat belt :icon_salut: , i tried to say i had just taken it off to get out the car but they were having none of it.

i went straight to a friend who is inspector for traffic, he sorted the fine out and said ALWAYS wait in the car so they can see i have the belt on when they come to my window

another good 1 was without the car:L

was going camping up skye a few years ago and took a half day holiday to get sorted.

left work at lunch and stared to walk the 3 miles home, got about 2 miles when i spotted an un marked car looking at me as they drove passed, thought nothing of it and carried on walking with head down, then i was aware of somone in front of me, stepped to 1 side so did he, stepped to the other again so did he, he then pulled out cid badge and said someone fitting my discription had broke into a house and would i mind jumping in the car with him so he could take me to the house and someone could tell if it was me or not.

as i had just finished work and knew i'd done nothing wrong i jumped in the car (the house they were taking me to was just behind where i lived so i thought it would save a bit of walking :icon_salut: )

got cuffed to 1 cop and asked to stand outside the car and the other cop ran up the flats and was to get a neighbour to look out window and clear me (or so i thought)

next thing the cop comes out the flats and says sonny your nicked ;) they were about to take me to the cells but i managed to get them to take me back to work where a work mate said it could not have been me as i was at work and had not long finished, then the cops let me out the car back at work and had to make to journey home for a second time

the scary thing was if i had been on a full days holiday and was just walking up the road i would have been done for breaking into a house as i'd have no witnesses for me and just 1 old woman who said i broke into the house

I got picked up by a copper last night.

She took me down Aberdeen beach and bought me dinner as it was my birthday.

Just thought I would even up the balance. :icon_salut:

Some people might not think so, and I know theres others that agree, but were well lucky with Grampian police!
