ok here is hoping that richie cross will see this. I have opted for a meercat sportcat and was wondering if anyone has fitted one without getting mapped straight away???????? Was thinking about fitting it this year and getting remap next year. I know i wont get the full benefits until the map but i will get some benefits but is it safe and adviseable to run without getting mapped?????

cheers

chris

Why dont you just wait till your getting mapped, then fit it then?

thanks for the info richie. did you get that knocking noise sorted?

John,

I have some cash just now so thought i would finish off the exhaust section.

I see, why dont you buy it and store it if your worried about issues while running with it?

just going to take the chance and get it fitted. going by what richie has said it is safe to do so. then will be saving for the remap and the fitting of plugs, cai and maybe some other choice mods next year.

how is your car these days John?

Running grand mate, thanks. Just got new tyres, alignment done, cross-threaded studs all replaced, a suspect bearing sorted out and a service. That, on top of getting my seats, harnessess and DEFIs sorted - yeah baby! Feels fantastic on the road, I love it, love it, love it! Trouble is, 340bhp is soooo last year! Bummed!

340 was 2 years ago mate :D

Well its a whole lot better than ZERO bhp :P

Hi john , how are you getting on with your bobywork repair mate?

cheers kenny

Just got the cash from the girl today, so I'll get it booked in this week :)

 Too true

Nice one. I got one a couple of months ago, and now mapped as well.

Mind it's not a quick job, once your old one is off the new one has to be made and custom fitted bit by bit as they go... takes quite a while but it's well worth it.

What other mods did you fit and what figures did you get?

Hi Chris,

Don't know if you'll remember but I started with the Meercat downpipe sportscat that you're getting.

Kept the Prodrive back box but then got a Meercat centre section.

Knew I'd need a remap if I got the up pipe so waited til I got hold of a VF34, pink injectors, STI TMIC and

then got a Meercat slip joint up pipe (£90).

Remap gave me 334bhp/335lbft.

Oh.....that metallic noise has gone  Just got new brake caliper pins and that was that.

Meercat 100 cell sports cat downpipe in 3".

Hayward & Scott 2.5" centre section and backbox. (straight through)

Uprated fuel pump.

Removal of resonator box inside wing - but kept standard air intake.

Cosworth panel filter.

Cold air scoop in bumper (for a little more cold air up to the filter, might not do much but looks good as well).

AF remap - 351bhp and 381lb/ft

Sounds awesome now, bit more throaty through exhaust. Standard dump valve can be heard now, and the induction whoosh and turbo spooling up sounds great!! Plus it goes like f***...

Cheers,

Mark

mark,

how long did you run the car for before hitting over 3k rpm? Willie mentioned i need to do about 8 miles to bed it in but am not sure if that is just for first 8 miles or every time i take it out.

Chris,

That's just the first 8 miles.. Scott just said to me that on the box for the cat it says to drive steadily for the first few miles to bed it in. Luckily for me the road from Kilbirnie back to glasgow was busy that day!! so think I took it pretty easy.. hopefully easy enough! I think I booted it a bit once I reached the motorway, or somewhere around Lochwinnoch. I think it just needs a fairly gentle heat cycle to warm the Cat through because it's brand new.

After that it's business as usual!!
