brunty Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Hello, I need to get my classic Type RA checked out for fueling etc. It's standard apart from the manifold and exhaust. I've been to AVA before with my Scirocco and they seemed to know their stuff with turbo'd cars, but have also been hearing good things about Dastek. Both are within reach for me (lanark), but which is best for the Impreza? Cheers, Brunty
Spaceman Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Jerry at Dastek to do it or Dunc at hypertech whoever is closest i suppose id avoid ava tbh, they do cossies very well but not so hot wi there scoobs it would seem. greig

Never see any Scoobs outside there, just Fast Fords etc. No Jap stuff. Dastek are good, I think they mainly do VW stuff but I could be wrong. Hypertech would be my choice.
Maxxed_Ross Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Hypertec are the local jap specialists and Duncan will be able to point you in the right direction with any problems, but I've been to Dastek a few times and always had good results and advice All depends on the price I suppose, and both can be very busy so book in advance!
sti pretender Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Ask Scott (SMA01) about AVA his car is now at Hypertech. Getting things done properly. Have used Duncan for most of my work on the Type R.
brunty Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Cool, thanks guys. Got a website or contact details for hypertech?

J.C. Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Hypertech aren't recommended by everyone, this thread on the Trackscotland forum tells of power runs being done with bonnets closed and only a small fan. It just seems to depend on who you want to believe, from what I have read on the internet Subaru folk recommend Hypertech, Evos recommend Wallace Performance, Fords recommend Ava, etc But that is just what I have read, best to speak to the RR operator themselves and make your own mind up.
Maxxed_Ross Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 (edited) I've heard just as many complaints about Star, so I suppose it depends on who you trust. I've done a few RR days at Hypertec and yes they left the bonnet shut on a few cars - but to be honest the short time the Corsa's and Saxo's were on there I doubt it made much difference! As for the small fan comment, yes they use a small fan to blow cold air directly into the cold air feed if you have one - that's the only time it's used. Air from inside the building? I don't get that comment as the Hypertec RR is almost outside anyway! Edited February 15, 2009 by Maxxed_Ross

brunty Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Booked in at Dastek tomorrow at one o'clock. Turns out that my Father-in-law (to-be) is one of their suppliers, so I'll have to find out how his equipment is holding up If anyone is around there at one come and say hello
brunty Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Turned out to be a very worthwhile session. Even if they were late starting... The turned out 200 at the flywheel with the boost slowly rising to max rpm and AFR going off the scale rich at about 5k. We think this is going to be a leak in the boost pipe from the turbo to intercooler. Got a new one on order (hopefully the right one), so I'll see what difference that makes by the weekend. At least I know that the engine isn't going to blow up on me, which is a relief as I've never worked on a Subaru before and my trial by fire worked out ok...
