GJLATZ Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hello all, Just received our annual insurance renewal quote. The quote from Tesco for fully comp (no more than 6k miles per annum) £ 454.00 . I realise other owners will be paying more and some alot more, however does anyone recon it can be beaten? Owner is in their late 30's..... Gjlatz
bigbird Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 It all depends on where you stay, where the car is kept, points on licence etc, so no two quotes will really be the same. However... 35 year old, unlimited mileage, mods declared, Edinburgh postcode and admiral charge me a smidgen over £300 a year, fully comp and protected.
dipsy Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Tell them to sharphen there pencil thats words i kind of used
StrikE Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Man never take a renewal straight away, always shop around then go back to Tesco's and tell them another insurance company has made you a better offer & what can the do about it!! Just do what i do and tell them to drop it £50 or get stuffed, usually works
GJLATZ Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Thanks for the quick replies guys, Just tried the moneysupermarket.com and got an unbelievable quote: Edin postcode Garaged No Mods (not sure if Meerkat backbox and front splitter should be declared) £271.00
kennyuk300 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 guys these figures make me cry male aged 33 £660 fully comp (my motorquote) when i tried to get insurance from tesco they said i had to have a tracker fitted(i would probably have eaten it when in traffic )or they would not insure me. airdrie postcode
bigbird Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Thanks for the quick replies guys, Just tried the moneysupermarket.com and got an unbelievable quote: Edin postcode Garaged No Mods (not sure if Meerkat backbox and front splitter should be declared) £271.00 Good, but remember, the cheapest quote isn't always the best quote.......
colzo Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I don't mind paying around £400 for a PPP STI, 18s, Glasgow post code, no claims protected, legal cover, courtesy car etc. Everyones driving history, occupation etc effects your premium just check you have the cover you need and you don't have some crazy £750 excess!
GJLATZ Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Just been checking out the Diamond website, the scoob belongs to the wife so the quote was in her name, details etc. Diamond only insure women drivers. Cheaper insurance for women!!!!
stinger Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Some wise words have already been passed... Never ever take the first quote, always treat the cheap ones with suspicion and check them out, theyve gotta be cheaper for a reason. When i got my first quote on a scoob at the age of 40 (with an apalling driving record tbf, no points but 15 write offs) i was quoted between 450 and 2500. I am currently paying 310 fully comp but that is with no courtesy car (i have my own daily drive) and a 200 quid excess. I am also always aware that in really high payout situations, the insurance company will do their best to find a way out of paying so "car in my wifes name", undeclared mods etc need to be careful.
