C_WRX Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I'm a little uneducated in this type of thing so need some expert help (that's a lot of you! ) Turbo Hose Kit : I think the ppp comes with this upgrade but is the Samco version just as good ? If you run a power upgrade from standard it is an advised change is it not ? I think this is what I am looking for, basically just the "Y" pipe I originally wanted but the kit is fine as a couple of extras in there - http://www.scoobyparts.com/acatalog/SAMCO_...W_AGE_WRX_.html As far as I can see it is a same standard part number / design for all newage.
C_WRX Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Not one reply ???? Okay, can I ask is it worth getting the Samco turbo to intercooler "Y" pipe over OEM when going for a modest power increase ?

Sorry I'm no expert, but I think you are correct in what you are thinking. I too have looked at the same kit from scoobyparts and would like to have it fitted before I finally get a de-cat up-pipe and sports cat down pipe followed by a re-map. I'm sure someone could confirm this as being accurate.
euan_r Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 you can maybe feel a slight difference but dont get too excited. andyf recommends them so thats good enough for me. silicon pipes make fitting/removing intercooler a lot easier. also worth doing as original plastic ones can fail, so a bit of future proofing.
scouk Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 (edited) Hi mate, Yeah that's the right pack.. (For WRX) Your also right in thinkign the Y-shaped pipe is what is added as part of hte PPP on imprezas.. The standard one on teh WRX's are plastic and ribbed (ooh err) whcih doesn't have as clean an aiflow as the smooth silicone ones.. Also when increasing boost levels the plastic ones have been known to split and puncture which is why Prodrive felt it necessary to swap it out as part of hte upgrade. As Euan mentioned above, You wont really notice any difference in performance unless the car is remapped or has it's boost levels increased In some cases you "may" hear the airflow slightly louder.. In theory the car will be breathing that little bit better and as metnioned above it's much more reliable than the standard plastic Y-Pipe... Samco/Prodrive/Venair.. are all more or less hte same quality.. I've got VenAir ones on mine and not has any problems at all even after ramping up the boost.. THe other two pipes in the pack are one the short pipe from itnercooler to intake and the longer one from BOV back to the turbo (for air recirculation) Hope this helps..
