st3ph3n Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Replace the doors with paper. The windows with cling film.
paul555sti Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Baz you will get a few ideas from this thread. http://bbs.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-general...y-standard.html
RS Grant Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 What model Impreza do you have as a base.... if its a UK car then replacing the heavy panels like the bonnet with lighter aluminium JDM or carbon stuff will save a load of weight too. Cheers, Grant

Guest CRAIG D Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Id Deffo go for the lighter panals once you have stripped all the inside of the car ITS THE WAY TO GO
DR Motosport Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 How far do you want to go with it, are you still planning on using the car everyday as a road car? If you are, you limited to replacing the front seats with lighter ones on frames - 25kg saving Aluminium Bonnet to replace the steel one - 8kg Lightweight battery - 12kg Lightweight alloys - 2kg each if 17" Weights are all approximate, but there's over 50kg If wanting to use it only as a track car; then there's the rear seats, carpets, all interior trim, sound deadning, spare wheel and tools, air con, stereo and speakers, excess wiring, etc. Your now at over 100kg+ less. It all depends on where you want to stop. David
JohnSt Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 1100Kg is pretty easy, mostly about removing bits or fitting the right ones as David has pointed out. You can get a 4dr down to just over 1000Kg, but it's bloody hard work though. ---john---
b4z Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 a already have an bonnet and boot from an ra. fitted sti 16s with alloy wheel nuts took out spare and tools
JohnSt Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 a already have an bonnet and boot from an ra. fitted sti 16s with alloy wheel nuts took out spare and tools Boot from an RA is no lighter than any other Impreza, no matter what you've read, the only panel on an RA that is lighter is the bonnet !! ---john---
b4z Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 - only replaced it due 2 rot on old one just happens its from a ra was not sure if it was diff. is there much weight in sound proofing
JohnSt Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 (edited) Take the carpets up and break off the sound deadening. The 4 floor areas, under the back seat and boot will yeild 10kg (pick the coldest day of the year to do it and it will make a pain in the ass an easy task). The sound proofing mat on the bulkhead will give you another 10 !! ---john--- Edited December 19, 2008 by JohnSt

JohnSt Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 thanx mate how hard a job is getting the mat of the bulk head Not hard at all as long as you take it out in lots of little bits. If you want it out with a view to replacing then the dash and other bits need to come out. Just tear it up ---john---

JohnSt Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I took another 5Kg to the Coup yesterday, so the diet goes on even in my car in its current form Good luck ---john---
cullenmin Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I took another 5Kg to the Coup yesterday, so the diet goes on even in my car in its current form Good luck ---john--- So how much do you guesstimate the weight of your car now John? Rich
cullenmin Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 1030Kg at a guess I always find your threads about the car very interesting and a good input to the forum because you've done everything to your coupe that I'd love to one day do to mine. Keep up the good work & all the best for 2009 competitions Rich
DR Motosport Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 1030Kg at a guess That's some weight loss John. Take into the weight of the cage, and there a car at less than 1000kg. That's mighty impressive David
JohnSt Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 (edited) Hi David, it was 1040 on the Weigh Bridge last time I weighed it, since then, the pad saw has removed 5kg and the front brakes disks alone are 2.8 kg lighter than the Cast Brembo Disk, havent compaired the calipers yet.
