Guest Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I currently have a set of Blistein dampers as fitted as an optional extra from new. It also has a set of springs that were fitted from the factory. The shocks appear to still be original as i have no receipt for them being replaced so a worthy investmant
buffalo Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 same happened with my teins. rear driver side. as for taking a pic of a pot hole, i went down the road when i buckled one of my OZ Hydras. the councils response was as i had not alerted them to the hole who did they know it wss there to be fixed. though i have heard of people geetin full new sets of alloys though never met one lol
scouk Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 As a quick update... Dealer I bought the Springs from (Town and COunty Aberdeen) are replacing the whole set under warranty Just a PITA to get them swapped over
scooby222 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 at last something going right for you Al!! hate to say it Ciaran but it appears to be a problem specific to newages,i did 70k in classics with nooo problems at all. off topic was that you that almost got wiped out last wednesday night when a people carrier pulled out while you were overtaking it!!!
scouk Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 Yeah.. Got the rears removed today and the car is currently sitting on blocks in the drive Heading through to ABZ first thing tomorrow morning to pick up the replacements and hopefully if the weather stays dry (year right) get it all back together again tomorrow! WooT! Checked the dampers and the rears are a bit more squishy than they should be.. Rear left in paticular.. I've seen worse though... But will need replacing next year.. Got all the wiring sorted for the driving lights as well today.. So just need to fabricate some brakets Cannae wait to try them out along with the new HiD's in the headlights BTW - ANyone got any tips on how to safely remove the AFR/O2 sensor from the exhaust? Mines well and truely stuck... Considering removing headers to get it on a bench (Yep.. been a wee bit busy this week ) off topic was that you that almost got wiped out last wednesday night when a people carrier pulled out while you were overtaking it!!!
thefastone Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Good to hear that they are replacing them on spec, to be honest, I would have been very surprised if they did not, as that's a very premature failure... no matter what the road surface... ION - Hope your are ok Ciaran!!!!!!
mejamj Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 My scoobie's a uk300 does anyone know which suspension that would be? I believe its been on there since 2001 and the rear creaks sometimes when pulling off etc during slow driving and the front makes a bit of a wooshy noise going over speed bumbs at a normal 10mph but its fine at about 3mph. however it drives lovely, but I don't know if it would need replacing or servicing asap for an improved ride, i see members scooby222 saying annual replacements are on the cards, sounds crazy guys? so member scooby222 you some kind of scoobie master as i noticed on one of your posts you were boasting how hard you drive your steed?
cullenmin Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 so member scooby222 you some kind of scoobie master as i noticed on one of your posts you were boasting how hard you drive your steed? He's a bit of a head case like

The problems with suspension is with pretty much all "newage" models, (bugeye, Blobeye, and Hawkeye shapes) from 2001 onwards... there would appear that the quality of the rear shocks are not up to standard, and its common that they have to be replaced on warranty. some have reported having to have them replaced multiple times, there is however, apparently a new shock that is supposed to stop these problems happening... but I don't know much about that. the common thing, I think (as I drive a classic), is a Knock when you are pulling away from traffic lights... if you are in any doubt, I'd recommend that you take the car to an authorised dealer to get checked, as your car fits in to that age bracket... And "member scooby222" is no "Scoobie master", he just enjoys a spirited drive in the countryside... as do we all...
scooby222 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 And "member scooby222" is no "Scoobie master", he just enjoys a spirited drive in the countryside... as do we all... awww, dale!, i wanna be a scoobie master-sounds like a jedi but cooler cheers for that Rich,i thought you were the one with the head problem mejamj,if your car feels fine out on the open road its probably ok but the 2 main symptoms are a knocking/clunking noise coming from the back or with the car jacked up being able to move the wheel/strut assembly from side to side. if your concerned take it to a reputable main dealer or better a good specialist such as awd or hypertech. as for the new improved suubaru strut,i believe theres very little difference in lifetime with them. alas as the fast one says im no master and certainly dont intend to boast, but have a fairly aggressive driving style which uses the car the way it should but my point is that it shpouldnt be sufficient to damage components on a car built for this. o and welcome to the foruums!
cullenmin Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 cheers for that Rich,i thought you were the one with the head problem I just pee'd myself laughing at that one
scouk Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 (edited) This thread is startign tot crack me up Next run could be interesting between you two..... but I don't know if it would need replacing or servicing asap for an improved ride, i see members scooby222 saying annual replacements are on the cards, sounds crazy guys? As long as no illeffects are felt it's probably fine.. Knocking can happen for long enough without any harmful effects.. Annual replacements? Possibly, as I'm starting to find out.. But after having all the springs out of the car yesterday, checked the dampers, and they are doing what they should.. One of them stronger than the rest, but by no means compeltely duff (yet)... Instead of replacing them every year or two next time I'll be looking to upgrade to a decent set of coilovers for sure... It appears the Prodrive/Bilstein Dampers aren't really up to much either BTW - WElcome to the site! Nice choice of car.. always had a soft spot for the special editon models Edited November 14, 2008 by ScoUK
scooby222 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 dont worry Al,its all good banter and im safe enough just now anyway- Richs cars having a rear engine conversion!!! well the heads valves and most of the rests in the boot so that must be the plan?

Better weight distribution across all dampers (staying on topic )

Nice one guys i'd say your all like jedi masters without it sounding too tacky. I'd say a suspension change will be on the cards as i get the knocking on lights at hills pulling off and the last rear left tyre wore unevenly so maybe its all connected. what sorta dolla do you guys think it would cost at the garage? and maybe a low cost option is to find some plank who's written off a nice scoobie on the front end and buy the rear suspension as a donor?? are their any decent specialist scoobie breakers or scap yards about for suspension? thanks again

Guess I must be lucky then... haven't had any suspension issues on my 06STi (2yo and 20k+ on the clock)... and it likes the occasional "back road blast" too so not being grannied about the place.
