Never heard of them.

Right the story is that it has a failed water pump

Just wondering has this caused any damage overheating?

he is up for a straight swap if i took it as is.

It no big deal changing the water pump i know it's timing belt off etc but i would most likely

want to do the belt anyway.

Im so tempted what do i do?

he claims nobody will buy it so it will be easier to sell it in bits which is true i suppose.

Also the water pump is goosed which is strange on a brand new engine?

It has been for sale for ages and looks like a nice example just seems strange it has been about for so long i makes me wonder why. Plus he is in Leceister

Well is it not advertised on Pistofheads, or here, only Scabby-net...? I might have thought that if he was serious enough to sell, then he might have spread the love a bit...

And yeah seems pretty odd that he's not mentioned the water pump on the thread, I assume that He's just pm'd various people... does seem odd... to my mind, if he does not mention it in the thread, it means that no body can ask awkward questions about the

New engine too... I don't know, makes me a little curious as to why... so many questions... so many uncertainties...

dont think a water pump is that common a failure. depends how close you are to him to take a look. a sniff test would be a must for me now that hes mentioned overheating.

This car has been for sale for quite a few months, been on pistonheads, autotrader etc...

probably the wrong time to sell up and with the 2.5 engine that would scare alot of "need to buy standard" peeps away.

anyway the car looks a decent one and has all the right bits, wish i had spare dosh, would consider looking at this myself.

Leceister is not too close for the right car

Oh it has been up elsewhere... thought that I might have seen links to other sites...

but yeah, What would be a good price for a motor like this? being that the prices have dropped so much recently....

He's always been looking for too much money for the car imo.

How much is your RB5 priced at?

My RB5 is not actually for sale but valued at 6kish.

I have been emailing the guy and he seems intent on not fixing the overheating problem.

Im not buying a car like that without taking it out for a good blast to check it boosts properly.

He has said in one of his e-mails that the engine has only done 2500 miles seems strange that something would fail so soon after a rebuild?

It was overpriced but if i got a straight swap with it working properly i recon im getting a bargain?????

That what he has said to you mate?? The car is running a 2.5 with a VF22, and at 8psi, which is only about 0.6bar of boost..... I cant see how he's making those figures?!

A car like that will cause you problems, if nothing else, it will break things from stress etc.. I have no doubt that its probably a pretty frantic drive and will feel WAY quicker than your RB does at the moment, but with the water pump problem, the wild power claims and the way that he's not prepared to fix what is a relatively small problem considering the size of the engine build its had.. I'd steer clear cause you could be buying someone elses problems here mate.

If it was local-ish, it'd be worth a nosey, but Leicester is a fair old trek for something that is more likely to be a non starter... pardon the pun. ;)

Cheers,

Grant

I have said to him im not interested unless he fixes it cos no way i would buy it otherwise.

for all i know he could have boiled it knackered the heads and cracked rings block etc in other words it could need a new engine.

He said it starts and drives fine but obviously it starts to overheat.

Im staying well clear it's time to fit my VF23 and front mount cos the RB is ssllooww couldn't overtake an R32 yesterday!!!

Stay clear, as said above your just buying what someone has given up on. It may look all pretty, but its a pig in a poke!
