thewelsho
What does that mean and why are they/it required on cars with 400+ bhp? Link to comment
RA Dunk
they standard headers seem to be quite restirctive over a certain ammout of horses or something like that john, tubular ones help the spool a bit and increase torque that why alot of people tend to use them or get the OE ones ported, if your looking to buy avoid the "EBAY Specials" like megan etc, i use the GT Spec II on mine they retain the scooby burble at lower revs Link to comment

About fitting, what's involved? Ramps and under the car? Link to comment
RA Dunk
yup just a ramp should do it, but i think you do need a remap to follow as your interfering with the atmospherical condition of the plutonium sulphate of the veroxide generator Link to comment

I was thinking about a level 4/5 performance upgrade and among the bits and bobs needed there's the 321T, headers, 650 injectors, oil cooler and CAI - plus of course the remap, so I wouldn't be going down that route without the map. DID NOT!! well ok then maybe i did, but i think you do actually need a map though anyhoo i hope youve looked into a gearbox before you go for this next lot lol Link to comment

thewelsho
and BOOM goes welshos gearbox again Yeah, but I can achieve Level 4 with everything in place for the price of a gear box... Link to comment
RA Dunk
Yeah, but I can achieve Level 4 with everything in place for the price of a gear box... or you can replace the box now and drive your car like you stole it with out the fear of "i hope the box dosent let go" going through the back of your mind every time you use the loud pedal Link to comment

Level 4 or 5? I'm only on stage 3. When on stage 2 I had the new engine with the hybrid turbo and a set of ported OE headers but as mentioned they can seriously restrict you once you get to 400bhp. Just have a look at my dyno graph The power should have kept climbing but flatlined as they were holding me back. Dunc is correct in saying a remap will be needed though. Due to the volumetric and dynamic pressure changes, combined with the increased scavenging properties you'd hopefully attain through effective thermal management it's a bit of a no brainer really. thewelsho
Level 4 or 5? I'm only on stage 3. Level 4 400-420 bhp Full Decat turbo back 3” bore exhaust system Tubular exhaust headers and flow matched uppipe Walbro 255 l/hr uprated fuel pump EcuTek custom remap Custom Cold air induction 650cc Injectors AFP 321T custom turbocharger with fitting kit NGK uprated spark plugs I know of the need to remap the car with the OE headers removed, but I have no intention of adding replacements on their own. I was thinking about a new turbo unit and what gains I would get from such a turbo and as can be seen from the above (level 4). headers would be required along with a host of other things. It was just that I didn't know what headers were, which I still don't, not really, hence the reason for the post initially. I'm going to stab a guess at it and say that headers are the pipes connecting the engine block to the uppipe through which. exhaust gasses flow. In other words, the first point of exit for exhaust gasses. Link to comment
fai17
headers are exhaust manifold that connect to the exhaust ports on the heads of the engine. Then you have the uppipe that connects between the headers and turbo. Hope that helps you mate. But seriously John...if you go for the MD321T turbo you will need to look at a gearbox shortly after. Good luck mate Link to comment

thewelsho
I would second that John.. Yeah I third it, but that is running to a 4k+ bill... I suppose I could up the power and not use the car on track until I have the gearbox sorted out but who knows when that will ever be. Link to comment

I was thinking though, even if I fitted the turbo without all those other bits, I could still get the car mapped to run a little more than the 340 at present, then when funds allow, I can add the other parts as and when I have the cash and gradually turn the wick up on the map. I'll need to see if someone is selling an MD321T for a bargain though Link to comment
craigdmcd
I take it a new GT30R with the up-pipe and a turbosmart wastegate for the same price as AndyF advertises a MD321T isn't an option? Link to comment

craigdmcd
You can read about them here on Andy F's turbo advice page. Edit - the Turbo is the one second from the bottom, and has 2 of the 3 bits required to fit it - the RCM rotated up-pipe with seperate pipe for a Turbosmart race spec external wastegate. Just needs a downpipe after that. Edited August 27, 2008 by craigdmcd Link to comment
