jim dbm Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 im looking to get my car mapped soon and wondering if there is anyone else looking to do the same so that we could organise a bit of a discount from andy. if you can put your names down i will contact him to see how many we would need to get a decent price, please put what model car u have and what ecu etc u would be looking to get, ie ecutek remap or apexi etc. cheers.
Richie Cross Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I ended up changing my mind when the group buy was on the go last year but now I've decided that 'that's what credit cards are for'!!! Will only get an up pipe and remap but at least it'll be cheaper for the future remap when I'm doing a turbo upgrade!! Richie - MY05 WRX wagon
Richie Cross Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Last years group buy was a case of getting the numbers in and then the people involved arranging their appointments with Andy at his place in Port Seton...IIRC. On his site he says he can travel if there are a few people from the same area. Not sure if this would apply to the group buy unless anyone can tell us different?
mctwistuk Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 are you running a sport cat Richie the now with no remap? If so have you had any issues with doing that?
jim dbm Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 i took part in the group buy last year on my old car, arranged the appointment with andy myself, just need an idea of numbers and looking to get done in the next couple of months.

Hi mate, Kept the Prodrive backbox but got a Meercat decatted downpipe with 100 cell sportscat then Meercat did the straight through centre section. If I remember, Willie said I was one of the first to get the sportscat so he went and got it checked, MOT style, before I took the car away. The figures were all well within the MOT range. No other problems. Willie said he could do me a nice up pipe for £90 but I believe I'd get overboost with that and would need the map. If this group buy goes ahead..that's what I'll do....maybe!!! Can't afford the turbo/injector upgrade all at once at the moment. Really I SHOULDN'T have any remap but this forum sends me the wrong messages!!!!

jim dbm Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 come on guys u know u want to. my car has recently had a full decat and walbro fuel pump fitted and i need the remap to get the most from the car and andy is the man.

RS Grant Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I arranged the Group Buy last year.. and IIRC, Andy is pretty flexible with dates as long as people arent going to be taking the p!$$ with it. I think we had people spread over 3 months or so with the last one, so dont be shy folks, stick your name down here........... you DEFO wont regret it. :rotfl: Cheers, Grant
iain01 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Does the group buy make much difference to cost? I've just ordered walbro fuel pump, full 3" milltek decat system and VF34 turbo(ported to suit from AndyF) for my GB270, so ready to arrange remap very soon
craigdmcd Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I would be tempted to put my name down subject to a price - the car is the wife's WRX already has a PPP kit, so do I need to buy an Ecutek license or does it already have one?
Midnight21 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I would be interested in this but not the now cos saving up to go on the Mcrae Gathering 1st
stubaroo Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Could be interseted in this as I do intend to get the car remapped by AF at some point. I am just working my way through my list of mods at the moment. Just got the new wheels and tyres recently after upgrading the brakes. I am currently trying to arrange a date to get the car into Hypertech to get the suspension dealt with. (Lowered on Teins, Whiteline stuff and geometry). Also getting the windows tinted this Friday and looking at an STI 8 rear wing in the next few weeks. So after that lot I will be skint. The next part of the plan is the final part of my modding journey (I think) and that would be a full Meercat exhaust and then the remap. So that last stage is quite an expensive part and I can't say right now when I would have the funds to commit.

Yeah, you will need the licence. I wouldn't bother though, you wont get that great of a gain if you already have PPP. You really need to be looking to change things to get your money's worth - bigger turbo for starters. Then of course there is no point in getting a bigger turbo without doing something with the exhaust too. The map is £600+ and then the cost of the bits and fitting will push your overall figure over the 2 grand mark (at least). Depending on the year of your car, you may have to uprate the fuel pump and injectors too - more dosh! You should mail Andy with the spec of your car and tell him what you are after and how you use the car (track etc.), and he will advise you in what you need. There is also a guide on his website showing the components and gains in stages.

Volume discounts are available on this price and a typical 'group buy' price is £460+v depending on the number of cars booked in. Phone or email for details of the latest offers available. The above price is for the initial custom mapping which includes the licencing fee for the ECU. Subsequent mapping of a licenced ECU is £195+v if it my own base map or £350+v if starting with another tuners base map.

My MY05 wagon only has PPP, uprated fuel pump and sportscat. I e-mailed Andy who said with the up pipe and map, I'd see about 20bhp but considerable amount of mid range torque. I couldn't afford the whole package at the moment so plan to do this then hopefully the turbo/injectors at a later date.

I've already acquired a Newage STi intercooler, a walbro pump, and am trying to do a deal on a modified TD04 at the moment. I still need bigger injectors (I believe STi ones are ideal), a new up-pipe and a Sportscat downpipe. I was hoping for around the 310-320bhp mark at this and very quick spool-up. The car is actually my wife's and I'm trying to keep it very driveable. I was going to possibly sell it, but it slides under the 225 bracket for road tax, and have owned it since new, so am looking to make it a bit more enjoyable for a few more years. Anyway, enough rambling, I would still be interested in a remap if the cost was agreeable.

What car do you have? A WRX in a Newage 2.0? You don't really need the intercooler, but it wont hurt to have it. I'm not sure the modified TD04 will give you that much of a power gain, certainly not over 300bhp, though I guess I could be wrong about that. Probably better looking for a VF34 or 35. You can pick these up for about 4 or £500 second-hand. Yeah, best to take out the uppipe as your cat could break up and get into the turbo - besides, you will get better throughput thus more power without the cat. The sports cat will keep everything legal as well as providing a base for more power. A full decat is likely worth another 30bhp though and will be cheaper to buy since there is no cat (I think). Check out Meercat for that. Don't worry about the car's driveability at 300+ I'm running 340bhp and lots of torque and my wife whose not the best driver, can handle it no probs. Good luck with it

The results were very impressive, and his own WRX with these mods embarassed PPP'd Sti's IIRC, as the car was on boost so quickly that it was up and off while others were still thinking about getting going. I've also seen tests that show a good sportscat only restricts power to the tune of 5-10bhp at thius level of mod.

Hi I would be interested in a remap depending on costs etc.... and dates Please advise Wilky0302
mikeyorr Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I contacted Andy F this week about getting an Apexi FC ECU fitted. I would be interested in this too depending on price and dates etc! The earliest he could fit me in was end of Sept as he is really busy at the moment. Mikey
Richie Cross Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 In between the questions etc, I thought we could start an official list for those that definitely want to do it or those that can add - depends on etc etc their name 1) jim dbm 2) Richie
