thewelsho Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Always be wary of somebody with no feed back. Hmmm, never noticed that and if I was buying that would defo put me off.
ScoobySounds Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) what about this one? its in glasgow so you could check it out more easily. I know nothing about if its the right one or whatever though. Edited August 4, 2008 by ScoobySounds
ScoobySounds Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) hmm cant get that link to work.. its item number 260269449853 Edited August 4, 2008 by ScoobySounds
RS Grant Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 In the first link, it says "....the parts you need to convert a 5 speed to a 6 speed are available but not included in the sale..." Hmmmm, might be worth asking the guy what he'd sell the complete conversion for. Cheers, Grant
thewelsho Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Whats the problem with your box John? Nothing. I just broke it and got it fully re-built as standard but it will not last if I keep up my track pursuits so I need to, at some point replace the box or install a PPG kit as it is just going to pop again. Don't have the cash at the moment as I keep spending my money on other stuff! Doh!
thewelsho Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) hmm cant get that link to work..its item number 260269449853 Yeah, hes in Glasgow and according to his description, he has the other bits to make it fit. Its done near 50k though. I don't have a clue what I'm looking at or exactly what I need to make it fit my car. I think I am going to hold out until I can get a PPG kit for my own box. That way I know exactly what I'm getting. Thanks for the heads-up though. Edited August 4, 2008 by TheWelsho
Linky Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I have the same issues with my 6 speed John. Track days have been hard on my 5th gear Syncro's. I think it depends on your power but i find the 6 speed is too short with the extra go i have now and think i'll be going down the five speed and PPG the first four route. About 3k for the bits though...

Yeah, a lot of poeple have said the same thing regarding the ratios with the 6 speed. 3k for the PPG bits, then the cost of fitting them will probably be another £500... ARGH its all money! As for power, the car is doing 340/400. Edited August 4, 2008 by TheWelsho
Linky Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 340/400..... you could always pull you neutral switch of your box and then your avcs will not advance then it would be more like 340/ 300 Your box will last then !!
thewelsho Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 340/400..... you could always pull you neutral switch of your box and then your avcs will not advance then it would be more like 340/ 300 Your box will last then !! What does all that mean! and what is AVCS? Sorry, I'm an ignorant fool!
Linky Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) I was only jesting about pulling your neutral switch but here's how above works ....... Your inlet cams have hydraulic servo motors(AVCS) on them and when the car is in gear the camshafts advance i.e open inlet valves sooner. This has the effect of producing more torque midrange especially. The neutral switch on your gearbox comes into play as when its open circuit(Neutral gear position) the cams will stay at base line i.e not advanced. This is to stop the cams advancing when you rev the car out of gear. Its a common fault on the subaru for this switch to wear and not make circuit when your in gear and accelerating , therefore the cams do not advance and u you lose torque. Torque kills boxes Hope this helps...... Edited August 4, 2008 by Linky
thewelsho Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Torque kills boxes I know, but its also gives life to midrange acceleration. Oh and all that other stuff; right over my head! Told you, I'm an ignorant fool!

RS Grant Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Never realised that the Hawkeye WRXs had AVCS, thought that was an STi-only thing. Learn something new everyday. Cheers, Grant
