dram300 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 My front left tyres keep wearing out around the outer edge. I wouldn't mind so much but the rears are OEM and have done 25k miles (must be a record for a Scooby?) yet this will be my third front left. I have had the tracking checked and adjusted twice (once by dealer, once by independent) yet the same thing keeps happening. (beginning to think I've got FWD instead of 4WD!!!) I'm guessing its roundabout and power-steering related, but as most of my driving is around local roads - short & twisty roundabout type runs, should I get a fast road setting rather than the stock settings. Will this alleviate the problem? This might be the point where y'all tell me the tyre wear can only be fixed by starting my modifying career with lowering springs
wulsey Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I fitted prodrive lowering springs & got the geo set up to the prodrive setting on MY02 WRX & ate the inside edge of a set of toyo t1r's in only 1800 miles!!! So ive now change back to the subaru settings after fitting new tyres. It may be that your just needing your geo set up again mate.
Jimmy321 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Get the fast road settings at hypertech for £55.00 and it will not only improve grip but will also pay for itself it tyre ware.
shane Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I had the fast road settings done by GRD on my WRX. This has certainly made the front tyre wear more even, the no longer wear on the outside edges.
Guest Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 What exactly are “fast road” settings? Do they charge you 55 quid to fling a set of cam bolts on the strut to hub fixing and wind on some negative camber?
braveheart Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 What exactly are “fast road” settings?Do they charge you 55 quid to fling a set of cam bolts on the strut to hub fixing and wind on some negative camber? Just had my settings done as Fast road settings.. the point about the prodrive settings that everything else on the car stresses aswell alot more never mind the tyres, a suggestion the car will react as good as the driver as i get a better driver at speed and also on a track then i will change my settings to the next stage so the settings will progress with me and im lucky to see ther track 6 times a year so you have to ask your self is it worth the money on changing the tyres evey track day.. Just a sussgestion not really answered your question tho ... Chris
thewelsho Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 What exactly are “fast road” settings?...wind on some negative camber? Yeah, more negative camber for better front-end grip and less/no understeer. Applied to the fronts only as the rears cannot be changed without modifing the suspension. Fast-Road settings is more negative camber than standard (standard cars are set up to understeer) but less NC than Prodrive settings. I have no idea exactly how much NC camber is applied to each setting.
dram300 Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Thanks for the input. Based on comments thus far, it looks like I'll be off for fast road settings Guess I should also be doing aluminum drop-links and springs whilst I'm at it ?!? But as I've got creaky dampers so its off to the dealer to get them checked out first. Should I get the prodrive springs whilst I'm there or something else?
Guest Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 you can adjust the camber on the a*** end of my car?! I'd imagine it's not any more than a degree and a half, 2 at most, for road use, anymore and you'll end up wearing the inside of the tyres away uber quick. So its 55 quid for a set of camber adjustable cam strut bolts fitted and set. Not bad i suppose, they seem to be very expensive to buy, the bolts, must be quite awkward to make

Yes you may as well get drop links and ARB's at the same time. As far as springs are concerned i would get the prodrive springs, i have whiteline ones which cost less but they are noisy.
shane Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I agree the Whiteline ones are noisy due to them being progressive springs, but it's an easy fix with spriral wrap to stop them clonking.
