scoobie virgin
Hi, Does anyone know if a 01 P1 engine will fit straight into my Jap Sti my99? Will it run on same ecu etc? Cheers Link to comment
cullenmin
V5/6 Sti engines are the same as a P1 engine. So I would think Yes would be the answer. Link to comment

Cheers Need a bit more info on what exactly you're going to do. When you say engine do you mean short block, long block full engine and sensors etc. The cars are virtually the same so the devil is in the detail. Link to comment

WUZ
What piston letter? Look at the piston your replacing, it will have a letter stamped on it and you'll need to ensure you Subaru replacement has the same stamp. "R" Link to comment

colin_ross
Don't want to disagree Alan but my sti 5 was semi open. All info I have found is that the engines are mechanically identical. Link to comment
AlanG
I thought both the Ver5/6 blocks and the P1 block were the same as well Playsatan until i was offered a broken P1 block from a Subaru dealer which had came in for replacement under warranty (some years ago). That was the 1st time i seen a 2.0 semi-closed deck block which i thought was odd. From what i believed at the time, the Ver5/6 Sti blocks of 99-00 vintage are open deck, the semi-closed version not coming into play until ver7 Sti. I've seen a number of rebuilds which have shown the Sti block to be open deck on 99-00 year. The problem now is we are some 8 years down the line since these cars were new and who knows what the history is with some of them in regards to engine changes they've had. Link to comment
colin_ross
Agreed, I know they ran out parts on some models so you cannot be sure what you've got. I suppose my block may have been swapped out at some point also. The pistons were sti 5 though, what design was in the P1 block. Link to comment

I could take a guess at what was in it Playsatan, but it was that long ago now i can't remember. Might have been different if i had bought it! lol Link to comment
