Boxer23 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 What's mine say?? Evening gents! Yep, as Cret says both Frankie and Boxer23 have been back on the Rock for a few days visiting family and catching up with friends. I've just taken Frankie to the airport as she's heading back to the house in Stockport and I'll be going back in a few weeks time (cos we need lots of cash together very soon to get a new house - long story). I love living in Stockport but unfortunately too many scallies took a shine to my WRX and it was stolen less than a fortnight ago. Police found it less than 24 hours later after it had been abandoned and burnt out. Major So a lot has been happening in the last few months but both Frankie and I are doing really well and loving every minute in Stockport. Since I'm going to be hanging around the Rock for a few more weeks if anyone wants to meet up for a drink or night out, give us a bell.
Cret Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Bad news re' the car mate. I hope for their sake you don't catch the thieving muddyfunsters - I know what I'd be doing and it'd involve thieving fingers and a mole wrench...
Boxer23 Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Not so sweet.....maybe a little sour.... Nice forum site by the way, mate. The little chavs set the car on fire to get rid of fingerprints but if I find out who did it, the police will need to ID them with dental records!! Grrrrr. Got a real loathing for car thieves and vandals now. The WRX was targeted by some cowardly oik who keyed it overnight in Onchan. People love to mess with your car when you're not around. Makes my blood boil. Much news from the SIDC here lately?
Cret Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 After having me motorbike robbed back in May and having two jeeps vandalised over here I know exactly how you feel mate. Not much news from me except for getting the new, properly hosted version of the forum up after the freebie hosts wrecked the good start the other one had. Just been for a quick drive around in the Leggy to see if it's still overheating and it is. Anyone know how to bleed the system to get rid of an airlock?
Boxer23 Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 I've had plenty of cars which have overheated in my time so I'll give you a hand flushing the radiator out if you want to. Have you got a leak somewhere? Are you loosing coolant?
Cret Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Well I should be the king of mastering overheating cars after the renault 5 GTT & renault 9 GTT I had as they pretty much overheated every week. Just put another rad in it on Sunday and it's not leaking out anywhere, and the thermostat is opening ok as the water is pumping round, and the fans work but it's got air trapped in the system which hasn't happened to me before on the scoob and I can't get rid of it. Gets up to normal temp, stays there for a while, then suddenly heats up till it's getting far too hot & I have to turn it off. Only getting cold air from the heater and that's how I know it's airlocked but it's being a beehatch to clear it for some reason.
Boxer23 Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Yep, definately sounds like an airlock in the system to me then. I'll give you a hand anytime you want to flush the system. Let me know.
Cret Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Cheers mate. I'm trying to find out if there is a particular (ie proven) method of doing getting rid of an airlock in a scoob. As it mostly seems to be speculation & guesswork.

I can get rid of that airlock for you M8 , let me know when Jim , we can do it one night this week if you want. See you later...
andy_bray Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Oh sorry to hear about the car Boxer Little SH1T HEADS Nice to hear from you again...
dooahhdoo Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Neil, you have email RE a beer m8 Sorry to hear about A816 MAN Thats really bad news Jim, you sure the thermostat is opening? Could be that but I trust Andi
Cret Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Cool! Cheers mate. Other thing is I just tried it again about 20 minutes ago (might have heard me a couple of times going round the block!) but this time the rad didn't get hot even though the engine did so it looks like the thermostat has gone now too.
Cret Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Oops - cross posted! Thermostat was ok earlier because rad got nice and hot and had pressure in the pipes like it should but when I went out just now the rad stayed cold so thermo must be dodgy. Too skint to buy one until 25th so it will have to just come out until then!
andy_bray Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Jim dude , trust me it is not your thermostat M8 , It is an airlock.. I might still have my old stat nocking around if needed ...But the things that is happening to your car has happened to mine.. Let me know when you want help M8 ,,, Tomorrow night maybe, Jim... See you later
Cret Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 I know there's an airlock mate because cold air came out of the heater when the engine was hot but..... First time it got hot the rad was nice and toasty like it should have been with pressure in the pipes, but second time it got hot the rad was cold and pipes soft because the thermostat must have been shut. Airlocks don't normally make the rad stay cold like that in my experience of the renault days (the worst car ever for overheating/airlock problems). I've had one that's gone sticky in the past after not using the car for a while. Be good to try out anything you reckon is worth a try though dude!
Cret Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Morning dudes. Bah, 8 o'clock start today. Can't handle them, I'm nocturnal! You free for a quick look at it with me this evening Andi? Neil's offered to help too but he's down in Ballasalla.
