thewelsho Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 £160 WHAT!!!! That's the price of a new front splitter with enough left over to nearly fill the tank. Or ALK supplied and fitted... etc. etc.! Man, you must be REALLY into this detailing thing to pay that out for ONE pot of shiny stuff! I dread to think the cost of all your other stuff!
RS Grant Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Its not soooo bad considering how long you're £160 pot is going to last though.. but I agree that it would be a big mental hurdle to get over, I'd have to close my eyes when clicking 'confirm' for one detailing item at £160. Cheers, Grant

scoobyiain Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 I will prob buy the vintage glaze next year at £1800 a pot. Not too bad as you get free refils for life. So far i think i've done 8 cars with the concours and not even halfway thru the tub.
colzo Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Just out of interest have you tried Swissvax Best Of Show?
scoobyiain Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 Just out of interest have you tried Swissvax Best Of Show? Yeah i've tried it and really liked it but Swissvax and Zymol is like Subaru and Mitsubishi, you are either a loyal fan of one or the other and i chose Zymol
Hepy Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Looking good Iain. What pads do you use for the intensive polish, and the menz final? Also, do you frequent the Detailing World website? These sort of results would go down well on there.

I used megs polishing pads with the intensive and finishing pads with the ff. i am on detailing world but holding off posting on there until it's fully finished
Midnight21 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 craig79 - i just use Autoglym bumper care for the plastics etc. If you get polish on any black trim and it start looking white just use peanut butter of vegetable oil to clean it. Hi, did a search for info on cleaning plastics and trim(this popped up). My bonnet scoop and bumper are looking a bit faded(red car) would the Autoglym bumper care restore them? any comments welcome Cheers Cathy

They do something called 'Solaris' for - wait for it - £30,000....! WTF??? LOL It would seem it's some kind of container which creates the product using the sun!!!!

Menzerna intensive polish with a german applicator pad will work wonder tho as seen below
Frank_STI Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Very Very impressive mate, I'm into the detailing aswell. Was the above pic achieved by hand!?!? I use a rotary, gone are the days of hand polishing for me lol
scoobyiain Posted June 2, 2008 Author Posted June 2, 2008 Just by hand yeah, never took me long. Normally use the porter cable but that was not a full detail, i was just prooving a point to the guy.
Frank_STI Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Thats amazing, I never thought it was possible to restore paint like that by hand! I'm working on a Black GT4 just now and its a mess!! . What do you find is best to use on black cars for correction? I currently have Megs #80, #83 and AS R2 as my polishes
scoobyiain Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Megs #80 & #83 are pretty much the same as Menzerna intensive and final finish so stick with that and you will see the results. Are you doing it by hand? If so a german applicator pad is the best thing to use.

Not by hand, using a rotary and 3m pads (I'm an amature with plenty of experience , just hate doing black cars ) Also, what microfibre cloths do you use? I have been using the costco ones but find they can scratch the paint
scoobyiain Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Well you are prob the only one who hates doing black cars! I find them the most rewarding. The rotary should bring out any imperfections no problem with megs #80. As for microfibre cloths, the more you spend the better quality you will get. I have megs, poorboys and zymol cloths and all are of very high standards. When washing them use a non bio liquid, do not use powder as it will stick inside the weave of the cloth and cause scratches. Best thing to do is check it on a cd before using it on your car, if it scratches the cd then you can be sure it will do the same to your paint.
colzo Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I like the Poorboys MF Cloths, very plush indeed. Iain do you ever use vinegar when washing your cloths? If so what exactly is the benefit?
scoobyiain Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 never used vinegar myself, quite happy using my liquid detergent or replacing them every 6 months. Think people just use vinegar because its a really stong and cheap way of cleaning. Cannot be for the smell thats for sure
seafar99 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 "Well you are prob the only one who hates doing black cars! I find them the most rewarding" Iain if you change your mind, i've got a real black verhicle challenge for you, financial reward , free B&B , pax laps of knockhill and liquid refreshments to replenish your thirst......... craig.
Midnight21 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Sorry but that won't restore faded paintwork. Menzerna intensive polish with a german applicator pad will work wonder tho as seen below Thanks for that Looks brill Love the Audi too especially in Red lol (have one of them too)

It must be the mircofibres that are causing me the issues with black then, I find it looks fantastic till i take the polish off, then I get holigrams and it gets really frustrating!! Can get great finishes on every other colour, even really dark blues etc. I thought I might not have been working it for long enough but working it till the polish is clear and everything has broken down, its just a right pain!! The GT4 i'm doing just now is probs the worse car i'm came across lol After a couple of passes with some medium cut polish and 3m compound pad No refining of the finish has taken place to remove the remaining fine swirls and holigrams yet P.S. Sorry for hijacking your thread Edited June 4, 2008 by Frank_STI
scoobyiain Posted June 4, 2008 Author Posted June 4, 2008 Great results there Frank. If there is any swirls etc left over after a few passes it may be that the car has seen paint at some point and they lie under the laquer. Some panels on my BM took 3 passes with intensive and 2 passes with final finish as the paint is so hard.
Frank_STI Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 (edited) Thanks Got a Black BMW 6 Series to do on friday/saturday lol, shouldn't be too bad though.....hopefully lol Edited June 4, 2008 by Frank_STI
