scouk Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Bloody things.. was driving at a sensible speed 50-60..Honest guv! Initial inspection: -------------------- Front splitter cracked and lost a bit of paint but still attached! Lost a fog light cover Number Plate cracked Grill insert cracked and lost a bit of paint Headlight pushed in a couple of inches & bracket destoyed so the ol bugeye's will have to go back on Bonnet got a small dent in it! (Which I'm more annoyed at than anything else as I'll probably have to find a friendly body shop to straighten up.. Any suggestions? And aquired some added fluff to the front of the car Edited May 14, 2008 by ScoUK

C_WRX Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Doe, a deer, a female deer ? Edited May 14, 2008 by C_WRX
scouk Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 Doe, a deer, a female deer ? D'oh! Unsure... But it bounced quite a bit... Similar to that video clip of a rally car hitting a deer that was floating around here a couple months ago.. Fortunately less damage.. Was worried about it heading over the bonnet into the windscreen... F*&K that!!! But got off lucky this time methinks... Dunno about the deer... If it didn't stop in the middle of the road for an extra "hop" as it saw the car I'd have probably missed it..
colzo Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Unlucky mate hope you get things fixed ok. Looks like you got off lightly though as my neighbour hit a deer and wrecked the front of his Vectra.
iainc Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) TBH the pics aren't anywhere as bad as I thought they'd look... looks like you were fairly luck in that respect... seen a couple of cars written off after hitting deer. It'll be too far away for you I guess but the bodyshop at Letheny Mill (ne Inverurie) did the work on our Leon when someone caved the rear 3/4 panel in. They did a really good job on it 'cos you couldn't even tell that it had been repaired after they'd pulled the panel out and resprayed it... can't see where the respray starts/stops. jamesm Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Oh deer! Glad you are ok, could have been nasty. I remember when I lived up in Inverness I had a lot of close shaves. Scary when they just jump out in front of you. Hope you get it sorted soon.
sczscoob Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Oh B*&£$r! Don't think the chips away stuff you have ordered will come in handy for that.
Joe1989 Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Gutted for you mate. Bloody dears on a lighter note :
mrtoad Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Ouch! This happened to me with a new car, well 2 weeks old, and a deer jumped over a dyke and I hit it full on. Even at 30mph the whole frontal had to be done! Thankfully you have come off rather lightly, but still a pain in the ... At least you are okay, but I bet you got a fright!
Casper Spec D Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Unlucky mate! There a pain in the a£$E A hit one in my mates focus At sixty there was nothing left of the front of it and it caved the windscreen in at the corner the car was a write off,so in that respect your lucky.
scouk Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 Thanks for the comments guys... Damn lucky!! Seems the headlight took most of the impact as it's puched a fair bit onto the chassis.. Not even sure how I'm gonna get it out TBH appears jammed on a quick inspection.. Came out from a heavily wooded area so couldn't spot it early.. Whacked it at nearly full speed (no not 150+.. but legal speeds) only just had enough time to move my foot to the brake pedal but didn't get to push it in time.. Was just praying it wasn't going to go up over the bonnet to the windscreen.. Hoestly thought the front of the car would have been mashed! But 1 mile down the road pulled into work, no temp warnings, no silly lights on the daskboard, no scraping sounds of splitter hanging off.. Got out looked aroudn and was very surprised at the lack of damage! Everythign is more or less intact. But the splitter will need patched up (again), the grill insert thingy will need re-sprayed and the headlight is mostly intact.. Numberplate is crasked at the top right corner and lost a fog cover which I'll try and fine on my way back up the road.. Biggest problems are that the mountings for the main grill right along to the headlight seem to be destroyed so all that is just laying in place rather than being secure although you can't tell that from the outside, hopefulyl the bits are lyign aroudn the engine bay/undertray somewhere and I can stick it back together. Still got my old set of WRX lights which can go back on for now, but I'll wait until I get back home later and have a good look at what's left. Structurally it seems perfect. Bumper not pushed in any, just that bloody dent on the lip of the bonnet. Thankfully aluminium but may crack the paint getting it straightened. Oxbig1, that guy at Fogwatt "Billly Adam" IIRC is apparenrly a cousing of mine so I'll try pop in past sometime this week see what he says.. Hopefully give me some good news to get it sorted.. Not the end of the world but it's still a dent.. As has been said above. Could have been soo much worse, Right off's are common in these sort of incidents and even more serious if it came through the windscreen.. Fortunately just hit it's ar$e end with that side of the car so wasn't full frontal Phew!
cullenmin Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Oh min, thats unlucky. I seen a deer on the way into work this morning...lying at the side of the road already mowed down. Surely you'll get it sorted up easy enough. Rich
scouk Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 Here's the remains... Bracket for the near side STi Headlight is in a million bits.. No idea if it's repairable.. Really hope so as they are far better lights than the standard WRX once.. Look better too.. Here's the dent on the bonnet.. Admitedly not much but it still a dent! Hasen't broken the paint but it might if/when straightened And finally.. the look.. How dull and boring... It'll be back... dunno when but it'll be back...
scoobyiain Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Unlucky mate, could have been worse tho. I would guess the paint will crack when someone tries to sort out your bonnet
iainc Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 And finally.. the look.. How dull and boring... It'll be back... dunno when but it'll be back... Hmm... amazing the difference that the lights make to the front of the car. I take it that the rears of the sti and wrx lights aren't interchangable?
scouk Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 (edited) Hmm... amazing the difference that the lights make to the front of the car.I take it that the rears of the sti and wrx lights aren't interchangable? Sadly not.. It's all one mould and the layout is different I could "cut off" the WRX one and rebuild the STi ones, but don't wanna break a good set of WRX lights... Handy for these sort os situations besides STi/JDM bugeye lights are like gold-dust..Although my boss offered me his old WRX headlights that he got when we swapped his for morettes on his old scooby which was nice of him but kept a hold of mine anyway.. No chance of finding anohter set of STi ones anytime soon. I'll have to build a bracket of somesort... scoobyian - I tend to agree.. Straightening that bonnet will probably crack the paint and I'll be left with a nasty looking paintless patch .. And you of all people will know how crap that'll feel. ... It's not entirely obvious so I'll try live with it for a while, but maybe see what places can offer me on a fix & re-spray.. Not ideal but if it cracks It'll look bloody awful.. and just respraying one panel will look too obvious.. Edited May 14, 2008 by ScoUK
euan_r Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 like i said earlier at meet, cant believe how little damage there is considering.
